Three scientists at UC San Diego have rigorously estimated the annual amount of business-related information processed by the world's computer servers in terms that Guttenberg and Galileo would have appreciated: the digital equivalent of a 5.6-billion-mile-high stack of books from Earth to Neptune and back to Earth, repeated about 20 times a year.
I never liked those "From earth to whatever planet" comparisons. I remember hearing in my youth, that your large intestine was so long it could wrap around the earth 3 times or something.

All lies.

Very true what you have said. And the fact that distance between planets varies all the time. I suppose they are talking about when all the planets are aligned or wherever they happen to be at the time of writing?

It's probably an averaged distance. That's a lot of books. There aren't the raw materials in the solar system to produce that many books.

Heh... I'd love to see a printout of a youtube video. Not the screencaps, but the actual ASCII that makes it up.

I stopped understanding at "petabytes." After that, it just becomes nonsensical to me. I mean, really? What's bigger than a zettabyte? Definitely not a trilobyte....

After zettabyte comes a yottabyte. But I always want to call that a yodabyte.

Hmm...lots of data, you have.
