Hi fellas, I have a problem with a PS3 Slim CECH-2001A.
This PS3 was my Brother n laws, he was a big time console gamer. In fact its all he did, hours each day playing games with his son. Last year he passed away so my nephew who is 7 has really gotten attached to his dads personal stuff. Especially his PS3 since that's all they did together. I'm not trying to lay out a sob story, I just need you guys to now how important I get this PS3 fixed.
First thing is it wont read any type of disc. So what I did was replaced the laser the whole laser assembly with the motors not just the laser its self. I noticed the new laser was coming on and moving up and down. I can see it do so threw the disc. The old laser did not do this. However the PS3 will make a eject noise/movement and than do nothing.
I can see the laser moving, flashing the laser and than make a eject movement to reset the disc. It will try reading the disc again. After that it does nothing.
The clock hand in the circle on the top right of the screen moves at a slow pace and that's all it does.
I have also replaced all the ribbon cables and the entire disc housing.
I have restored the system, reformatted, reset. by holding in the power button to get those options.
I have tried holding the console at a 45 degree angle
I have reset the drive by holding in the eject button
I have updated the firmware.
The only thing left is the Logic board. However I read if you can play a demo the logic board is fine. And I have played three demos just fine.
I have checked the buses that the ribbon cables connect to with a magnifying glass and a led light. They all look fine with no noticeable bent pins.
I'm thinking the new laser I got may be bad but logic tells me that's not the case. especially since it was a OEM part that cost me over $100. I thought about buying the cheeper laser but did not want to take the chance. The laser I got was the KEM-450 AAA. Which is the same that came out of it. I also read that the logic board may need to be remarried. However if that's the case would I be able to play demos. Maybe the new laser is bad? I don't know. The only options left would be to take it to a repair shop or crack the thing. please guys can you help me out.
