Hey,<br>
i am building a C2D rig, and i have almost all the components except the motherboard ( this weekend) and the PSU<br>
My rig:<br>
-e6300 (hopefully @ 3GHz)<br>
-Western Digital 320GB SATA2 Hdd<br>
-Connect3d x1300 256MB<br>
-3x512MB (cheapo RAM) DDR2 533<br>
-Asus P5B or Gigabyte P965-DS3 <-- still can't choose<br><br>
On my current PC, the PSU is a 450W Touchmate (the only brand name PSU i could find in the country). Never had a problem with it, and managed to overclock my Radeon 9600 from 398/202 to 452/216 <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/biggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Big Grin"><br><br>
I phoned their store, and they told they had a 350W PSU for bout 10$ US. I would like to know if it is a viable option, and if not, what i need to find on the 12V rails (amps) so the PC can function, and hopefully OC nicely (nothing extreme, 2.4GHz to maybe 3GHz)<br>
Thx

Djibouti! 350 would probably be fine, I would go for 400 to be save so then you can get some super duper graphics later

Lol! Learn your geography people ! <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/tongue.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Stick out tounge caps"><br><br>
PS: any idea how many amps i would need on the 12v rails for the CPU and Gfx card to function normally?

More than a $10 PSU will give you. The PSU is something you do NOT want to go bargain-basement on. I'd recommend spending at least $50, probably more, on a good, reputable PSU.

Are there any websites of shops who specialise in these sort of thing in your country? Or any companys worldwide which ship to you?<br><br><a href="http://www.memory-configurator.com/index.html" target="_blank">http://www.memory-configurator.com/index.html</a><br>
That website ships to you and they have a decent psu as well. <a href="http://www.memory-configurator.com/products/description/600W_OCZ_GameXStream_Power_Supply_SLI_Ready-EU_version_/index.html" target="_blank">http://www.memory-configurator.com/p...on_/index.html</a><br><br>
It says it is an EU version...I don't know what you have in Africa but it should work I recon.

3x512?<br><br>
Dude, it would be better to use either 2x512, or 2x1gb....hell, even 4x512 would be better. always keep it even, so you get dual channel.<br><br>
I'd say 28a on the 12v should be plenty. Try and find an ocz, enermax, antec, or something like that....

<a href="http://www.poweroptionz.com/prod_info.asp?id=EN-NT420" target="_blank">Enermax Noisetaker 420 Watts</a> is on a site located in the UAE ( where I am for now) and it proposes this one for 99$ dual 12v rails at 18A each. Has some heat protection which would be perfect for me.<br>
However, i am dang broke after buying the VGA and the RAM and the CPU (which sells for bout 270$ here) so would it cause much damage if i use the 10$ PSU (if it is enough) for a couple of weeks till i can get my hands on some cash ?

That looks to be a suitable psu for your system.<br><br>
Do NOT run it with the $10 psu. It may fry all your components and is a sheer unnecessary risk to your pc. Do NOT do it.

I think you should take that 450 out of your old computer if you still have it and use that for awhile, its proven to be solid. And if you still need that computer then put the $10 on in it.

I might just do that, but wouldn't that risk just making my P4 PC unusable ?<br><br><br>
Edit: <a href="http://www.enermax.com.tw/english/product_Display1.asp?PrID=7" target="_blank">Enermax Liberty 400W</a> seems more appropriateas it seems to have dual core support and 80% efficiency overall with more connectors.

Well it is a choice really, if you think that it will make it unstable, which I dont think it will, don't use your new computer until you can get the PSU, or don't use the P4 computer, I know which one I would choice.

well, I went for the Enermax Liberty 400W(link above). If anyone has any feedback on it, please post!<br>
But I have to get a refund from the x1300 I got. Instead, I will be using the S3 Trio 64+ <img alt="" class="inlineimg" src="/images/smilies/biggrin.gif" style="border:0px solid;" title="Big Grin"><br>
Found that one in my dad's OLD pc, (it;s from ~1997) lol.<br>
Couldn't even finish booting XP on it , but it should work nice enough for a linux distro.
