PSU Dead or ?

I am starting to wonder something here.

PCP&C 750 watt Silencer Quad that i had bought won't boot my Sig Rig up.

however, when plugged in, the motherboards Power / Reset buttons Light up.

is it possible that My wall outlet is not providing enough juice for this type of PSU?

how would I find out?

I am also thinking that I don't need this much power, even with overclocking, I have 100% decided against ever using SLI, and would probobly only upgrade to the GTX 260 GPU

Would the Corsair 650 watt be enough for my use?

As i am fairly certain that my OCZ PSU cannot handle a 260, and I don't feel entirely comfortable using it on my I7 build.

So again, need to know how to find out if the circuit that the computer runs on is giving enough power explaining how the PSU brings power to the power Buttons but nto actually powering up fans or anything. or if it really is just a dead PSU (which I will be Returning either way)

Well your outlet would only pull as much current as the mobo wants, so you could try unplugging everything but the memory and cpu and see what happens.

Then if it still doesnt work, throw your other psu you and see what happens.

More than likely though its your psu, assuming your house is up to code, but then again, my dad's house only has like 80 amps it can provide, old st louis house.

Its possible the voltage is too low, yet, unlikely. You would probably notice something like lights flickering, dimming, etc..

How to find out? Buy a little $10 multimeter from: Radioshack, Harbor Freight, Home Depot, Lowes, etc...

Put on AC and stick the probes in the socket (I don't know what your experience with AC electricity is, but be careful, electricity does not like to be touched by humans, and it will let you know this). See what the voltage reading is, and ideally it should be between 115VAC and 121VAC, mine fluctuates a little.

That covers voltage...

If it can't provide enough current, it will just trip, and will be dead until you reset.

Plenty, I am lookin at getting a Corsair 520W, or Seasonic 500W, and have totally ruled out SLi or X2 Gpu cards, and looked at GTX 285's, there current consumption, and then added some, and those psu's would do fine.

I would seriously look at the psu. Most likely your breaker is 15amp, which is 1800 total watts; if it was maxed out, you would know it.

Most likely is the psu, assuming everything else it ruled out within your system.

Those are good psu's though, I would make absolutely sure it wasn't something else within the computer causing it not to start first.

well i did read that a large percentage of these PC power 750's are DoA..
so I will just return mine, and maybe grab something a bit lower liek the Corsair CMPSU-650TX
