Hello,

I will soon upgrade my system with a second 7970, that is I will be running CF, and I wonder what kind of PSU I will need.

My system concists of a i5 3570k @ 4.8Ghz, three HDD, two SSD, and a MCP350 pump. I will possibly OC my cards as well. Totally I will have three 120mm fans, one 140mm, one 200mm, and six 90 mm fans (gpu fans, 3 on each fan).

I want the PSU to be modular and 80plus gold minimum. The problem is, the PSU cant be too large, maximum 18 cm in lenght, due to having my radiator in the bottom (CM Storm Stryker). Basicly it must be as close to standard ATX size as possible, which gives me a whole lot less to pick from. In other words no Corsair HX850, HX1000, etc.

My options so far are the Corsair AX860 (not I model, the shorter one), Coolermaster Silent Pro Gold 1000w, and Fractial Design R3 Newton 1000w. The reason I have these as a choice is because they are less than 18 cm, or 18 cm max and dont cost "too" much. I have read alot, some people say 800w is enough, others say go for 900-1000W. All I know is that I want to have enough juice for the parts I have, plus room for significant overclocking (cpu, gpu).

Any further tip on PSU and suitable wattage?

Best regards
Az

Where are you buying from (link the shop/s) and what is your PSU budget?

as for wattage, 750-800W is what you should be looking for.

The shops are in sweden, and I will try to buy my 7970 and the PSU on the same place. Lets say my budget is around what these PSU I have mentioned cost. You really think 800W max is enough, in that case the Corsair AX860 will be perfect because some shops has a little bit discount.

Indeed, you initial choice was the best one, the AX 760 or AX 860 are the way to go in this case, they're much better priced than comparable units at both those shops (rare thing for Corsair).
