PSU Good enough?

Planning to get 2x GTX 260 Core 216 to add to my current rig... Nothing's overclocked so far, been waiting forever to open it up and install my cooling, but now I finally can, so you have to take this into account, that my system will be pushed to limits.

I have about 8 fans in there total, a fan controller, a perc 5/i card with 2 velos, and 2 WD Caviar Black 1TB, my Q6700, 2x GTX 260 coming up... Would my PSU be able to power everything? I have no notions whatsoever in that department, if anyone has good reads feel free to link me at the same time, I need to learn some about rough power consumption estimates.

Thanks!

Well, according to what I've read, the maximum wattage one of these will consume is 182W. So, I'm guessing that means two will consume 364W at the most. So, I guess your PSU should be okay, but then if that's true, then it depends on how many amps these will consume in SLI mode. However, it says one requires 36A on the +12V rail, so does that mean SLI mode will require 72A at the most?
Do you plan to OC Q6700? Depending on the speed and vcore, it can take up to 210w. GXT260 216 is 182w GPU. With all fans, HDs and SLI, 750tx should be fine if not extreme OC. Otherwise, it is on edge.

Yeah, I was kinda thinking that this PC P&P Silence 750W would be on the edge, too.

Yes, i do think it's going to be really tight. It's worth a try tough, don't buy a new psu before you get to try the gtx 260's

i had a similar build. q6600, evga 790i ftw, thermaltake advance spedo case with 8 fans, 4x 1tb WD black, dvd burner, 2x XFX gtx 260 BE, 2x2gb Kingston hyperx with 700 watt. hope that helps.

I was going to ask the same question. I have a phenom 2 940 with the HDDs, two optical drives, 5 120mm LED fans, two 230mm fans, a 655 wiftech pump, 2 4870 512mb cards, and two 12" cathodes with a corsair 750w PSU. Am i too close or do i have enough? And yes, i do overclock both the CPU and GPUs.
You should be fine, the 750 Silencer has the amps to deal with it which would be your most critical issue.

4870 is a 150w GPU, With CF scale and what you have, 750tx should be fine in your case but pretty close.

Alright, thanks for the replies. Yes I do plan to OC the Q6700, but last I checked(long time ago), my VID was really crappy, so it doesn't look like an amazing overclocker... doubt it will be taking a lot. I'll just test and find out once I receive the GTX's, I'll go progressively. However the technical stuff on PSUs confuses me a bit, anyone care to link me so I go to bed less of a ****** tonight on the subject?

If I can hold on with that PSU until I upgrade to i7 rig, that'd be amazing... But since I plan to get EVGA's for the step-up... I'll probably have 285's or 295's depending on benches in 3 months/prices/scaling with drivers at the time for Quad SLI. So at least I'll be aware that next upgrade automatically means new PSU.

Thanks guys!

GXT285 is 183w, about the same as GXT260 216 but the GXT295, 289w max draw, usually take 240w/250w.

Just to get the question to stick out: what kind of technical stuff on PSUs do you want to know?

To get you started, I recommend going to the PSU product page on Newegg, then scrolling down to the bottom, and then reading the beginning of the Learning Center for this type of product (that is indeed the intro). When you're done reading the intro, click on that link (obviously). This will bring you into the heart of this Learning Center. Then just click on "What is a Power Supply?" and read from there. The Learning Center is actually pretty decent!

Once you read the whole first page, you're done. It looks like there's more because there are 4 sections to this, but they're all on one page. But then of course there's the Installation Guide on a separate page.

I hope this can get you started at least.
