Well I pretty much started building a budget tinker toy, and have had pretty good luck overclocking it up to 3.5ghz, but cant seem to get past that point. Ive run prime95 for 12 hours @3.485ghz with no errors, but when I try to increase it by 1 click the screen just blurs out in different color pixels then shuts off, Ive tried to up the vcore, Ive set the ram on a divider and have upped the ram voltage and just about everything else, Im not using a video card just onboard, Im guessing that my PSU cant handle anymore. In speedfan the 12volt reads at 10.4volts Im guessing this is bad?? Ive been planning on getting a new PSU just not sure what to get yet(not looking to dump a ton of $$ on a PSU) Anyways my temps are within reason 28-30I 50-55L

10.4V on the 12V rail is dangerous. I myself are usually around 11.9 or so. If you're looking for a cheap PSU with good rails, take a look at FSP Group (also known as fortron source). They have rather high-quality PSUs for under $60. BTW, that's actually not that bad of a system. You just need to upgrade the graphics and you'll have a decent performer on your hands.

Yes, 10.4 volts on the 12 volt rail is indeed bad, but I wouldn't trust Speedfan. On the rig I'm using, my high quality PSU reads around 11.1 volts (which is exactly the same as a freebie PSU that came with a junky case read). If you want to accurately measure the voltage on the 12 volt rail, use a multimeter and a free molex connector. Then you'll be able to make an informed evaluation of your current PSU.

All of that aside, a generic 250 Watt PSU is almost certainly insufficient for your needs. I suggest doing a PSU search on Newegg for PSUs and sort by price. Check out the best PSUs (name brand and good specs) in the price range you're thinking of then buy it from your favorite retailer be it Newegg or otherwise.

I wouldn't be overly concerned about 11.74 volts on the 12 volt rail, but the amperage of that rail is important. How many amps do you have on the 12 volt rail?
