PSU problems

HEC hp585d. Been running it daily since March with no problems until this morning. Turned the computer on like i do every morning, started checking the daily sites and my computer just shuts off.

Looked around the motherboard and video card, nothing looked burnt so i tried to turn it back on, the fans will spin for a second and stop. The lights on my motherboard are still on, so its getting some power.

Think its pretty much dead and needs a RMA?

PSU is in sig rig.

It seems that your power supply is dead, yes.

I'm not sure if it's worth replacing... it was bound to happen, that's not a very good quality unit, and you may not be so lucky next time. If a power supply dies, sometimes it can take components with it.

Can you smell burning around your power supply?

Yeah, those HEC PSUs are junk. You could get it RMA'd then sell it on ebay to help pay for a decent power supply. Hopefully it didn't fry any of your other components when it went. I think that model is supposed to have OVP, etc, but I don't know if it's properly configured.

I'd get a Corsair VX550W or something.

It does smell quite bad, same thing happened in March with my antec.. Though that actually burned with some smoke.

Thanks for the posts.
