Decided to give Intel a try for the first time, this performance/price for the 1155 finally brought me over.
Using whats in my sig except cpu/mobo/ram of course, which will be replaced by...

Intel i5 2500K
Gigabyte GA-P67-UD4 LGA 1155 socket
GSkill PI 2x2Gb DDR3 1600Mhz 6-8-6-24

You will not be disappointed. Intel is more powerful then AMD, especially in gaming.
The cpu you got is better then an i7-950 so you should be happy

id get the i7 if you have the loot for it.
there's nothing I do that would take use of hyperthreading. Gaming and excel are pretty much all I do on this comp so its not worth the extra $100 for me.

My CPU and GPUs are under water. I have a 360 and a 240 rad and ambient about 70f. Just installed the EK Supreme HF block the other night.
