Push/Pull or single fan?

857 Views 9 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  bk7794
Hi all,
I'm looking at purchasing a Prolimatech Megahalem shortly as summer is approaching very rapidly here in Australia and I need to keep my system cool.

My question to you is, do I buy two fans and set them up in a push/pull configuration or just buy a single fan and save my money? I'm looking at the Scythe Ultra Kaze 3000rpm. It'd be interesting to see if anyone has run any tests themselves regarding push/pull vs single fan.

Thanks,

Just a single Ultra Kaze is fine. With the Megahalems, I highly doubt there's much of a difference between just one fan and 2.

Thanks for the recommendation. At $22 (AU) a pop I'm not too keen on buying two...
A Push/Pull setup of 38mm fans has very little performance increase from just a Push or Pull single fan setup.
Like it might be 1C lower temps with 2 fans.
I say spare yourself the extra cash and noise and just use one.

Depending if you care about noise or not, you might want to go with a panaflo instead.

Sounds like a good idea to me! Does it really matter whether the single fan is in push or pull?

The noise doesn't bother me too much, the fan will be on all the time when I'm gaming but when I'm GPU folding overnight or just leaving my PC on I'll probably just turn the fan off. Thanks for the recommendation though.

I have felt the Scythe ultra kaze. they are heavy. Just an off topic but would they be okay for lets say my noctua or even the prolimatech because of the weight? Thanks
Ive found the push to be better. If you're gonna get one of those 38mm Panaflos or the Scythe the static pressure will give a nice push. I got a Panaflo on my TRUE and its fine

Well, the Megahalem itself weighs 790g, plus the weight of a single fan - I'm sure it'd be fine. There's heavier heatsinks out there, and I haven't heard a story yet of a CPU or board being broken because of the weight. The only thing I'd be careful of is when you're taking your rig to a LAN party, all the moving around and bumping could (theoretically) cause problems.
