Q6600 Bottleneck.

my quad at 2.7 is bottlenecking my gpu due to my 17" screen i think. will getting a bigger screen increase my fps and reduce this bottleneck? P.S my quads a crap OC. 2.7 is as high as it will go.

Have you ran memtest?
And no, the quad wont bottle neck at that resolution.
That quad should be screaming.
if you went up in size your FPS would decrease
when i OC, my 3dmark score goes higher by like a 1000 points and my fps is 10 higher in every scene for 300mhz increase. i cant get this quad stable even at 2.74ghz no matter what i try.

Are you increasing the voltage? Are you unlinking your RAM so that the RAM isn't crashing the computer (because it got automatically overclocked to high).

what speed is memory running when your overclocked at 2.7?

3dmark is not indicative of real world gaming performance. It relies so much on CPU that might as well be called CPU mark. Your quad isn't bottlenecking a single card at that res, and if you get a bigger monitor, your FPS will go down because of the larger resolution, as was said earlier.

if i run intel burn test, what amount should i set to test the CPU if its stable?

so 3dmark06 is the only thing that will see the bottleneck?

my ram is at 450mhz, its fine at this speed. 460 or higher, its not happy.

OK i have prime small fft and intel burn test running at the same time, how long should i run it?

not sure if i made it clear but my res is 1024x786. will i see bottleneck in that res?

Use Prime95. Run it for 18 or 24 hours, if it doesn't crash, it should be more than fine.

what about the intel burn test?
will i see bottleneck in 1024x786 when gaming?

cheers.

if your at 450mhz that means that your memory is running @900mhz thats why its crashing most likely. Im assuming you are using DDR2 800 memeory that is in your sig rig?

Edit if you are having temp issues already I dont recommend running IBT since you will be running in the high 70's low 80's

I wouldn't even use it.

Why that resolution? If your 17'' is a CRT, then nvm, but if it's a LCD, you should manage 1280x1024.

yes that's right.
even when i run ratio 1:1 i still get stability issues.
yeah its ctr and it can go up to that higher res but my games look the bang same and 3dmark06 shows a huge bottleneck. am not sure if other games will produce a bottleneck such as this one, will it?

If you have a LCD, the games should look MUCH better at 1280x1024.

Don't judge everything on 3dmark.

Unlink your RAM so that it's not overclocking with your CPU. It's being pushed beyond it's limit, and is therefore crashing.

Get new ram..Q6600+4870=1024*768 pwnage. At complete stock clocks you should eat games alive.
The Monitor is the bottleneck, not the Q6600. Get a new monitor, and you should be fine. 1680*1050 minimum.
how do i unlink the ram?
so a bigger monitor will stop the bottleneck? am i gettin a bottleneck now during games ike cod 5 and crysis.

yeah you need to overclock 1 thing at a time. Trying to OC the ram and CPU at the same time will make it more difficult to tell what is causing the problem.
