Q6600 & Ge8600GT

Ok so ive got a mate ive built a computer for, and he wants it to be very quiet

i.e. i have a NZXT Hush case, with all quite stuff, and it makes next to no noise, but its still too loud for him...

im going to water cool the CPU and GPU, and i need your guys help to select the correct bits

it needs to be a Rad with NO fans, and it has to sit on top of the Computer, i.e no taller than about a foot, maybe one and a half, i need all the pump/res inside the case, and it needs to cool a Q6600 and a 8600GT both at stock and needs to be literaly NO noise, or as close as you can get

so, can you guys help me out

Thanks

The PSU will end up being the loudest part of the computer, get a fan controller and turn down the fans when he needs it silent.
He needs it quiet the whole time its on, and the PSU is very quiet, enough to be ok

No noise is nearly impossible, extremely difficult, and expensive. Inaudible is pretty easy to do with watercooling.

PSU won't be that loud. Just get one known to be quiet and make sure not to use over 80% of capacity.

Get some Yate Loons and run then at 900-1000 RPMs... tell me if you can hear them from 2ft away. A 120.3 BI Pro or Thermochill is a must for this build.

Well i have the system built, its just a little too much, if i stop the fan on the Q6600 and the GPU with my hand ( only for a second ) he said that is enough, so i know a pump can be very quiet as its a Silent dampening case, all i need is a fanless Rad thats fits the spec in my first post, a good Pump/res and a Q6600 Block and a 8600GT block

Please

What fan did you stop?

Fanless rads suck bad. Even a little airflow makes a massive difference. From my testing with a quad core radiator (it's 11.5x2x9 which is HUGE).... my temps climbed over 50C fanless. I just run some fans at like 900RPM and my temps drop like 10C. If he can hear 900RPM Yate Loons from 5ft away... he is lying. I have great hearing and I couldn't tell in a silent room. My HDs are much much much louder.

I have a Q why are you getting him a Q6600 with a 8600GTS? that just seems will you know "stupid",when you could get a E6600 and a 8800GTS and blow that rig out of the water.

Not all PCs have to be gaming rigs. It could be used for video/graphics editting or science modeling.

Exactly, no gaming, mostly just so he wont have to upgrade for ages, and he wants HD-DVD stuff, hence the 8600gt

well you can get something like this:

http://www.xoxide.com/thermaltake-ro...oling-kit.html

or this:

http://www.xoxide.com/zalman-reserator-1-v2.html

but I would recommend Duckie's idea of low RPM Yate loons.

I have no experience with these, but they are supposed to be quiet to silent:

don't forget to swing by xoxide.com for some stuff for quiet PC's:

AAAA but if it where for that it would be mucher cheaper to go with a 8500,as that is what the 8500 is made for.

So was the 8600. Price difference isn't much either and the 8600 is more powerful especially when overclocked.

I think im going with this lot, id rather do a Res to be honest

how will that rad be with no fan at all ? remeber its a stock cpu...

HD-DVDs you would have been better off with a 2600XT (HDMI out, etc) but no stopping that now.

You will hit at least 60-70C if under full load after an hour. A stock CPU... with a 105-130w TDP plus a GPU with a TDP of 30-50w.

I have two res for sale. One is a 5.25" bay res. The other is a modded Swiftech res for inline setups.

60/70 is fine, i know id not run it at that, but they are rated at that, so thats ok with me, not my system after all ....

how much you think shipping will be from you to me in the UK ?
