Q6600 Low Temps, unwilling to overclock

598 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  Cretz
I've been trying to overclock for some time now
I have the Q6600 B3 and right now I'm running it at 3.1GHZ with auto voltage in the BIOS
CPU-Z shows 1.424V for the CPU which is quite high
but my temps are quite low 22C IDLE and 38C LOAD with Prime95 using Corsair H50 LC

My question is, Is putting voltage to auto recommended
and if I leave it at auto, if I push my processor to 3.2 GHZ
does that mean the voltage will increase automatically

Last time I did this, I booted up with a 3.2GHZ Dual core
so I had to clear the CMOS to restart

Your voltage won't vary with the speed. If your mb is left to Auto, it will set your Vcore according to the Vid. Speed has no part in the equation. Also, you can effectively ignore software voltage readings as they're about as accurate as my local weather man.

Generally you should always set voltages and timings manually. You should not exceed 1.5V with the Q6600.

You probably won't get too much farther with that CPU; the B3 revision didn't overclock nearly as well as the G0.

But your temps are great.
Thats a really sweet HSF you have there. If I ever decide to overclock further than my current 3.2ghz ill be sure to get one. I say try to go to 3.4 or 3.6 next, you definitely have some room to OC some more. Set your voltage to 1.4 and see if you can get away with it. If not and you blue screen just keep gradually increasing it until you find a good voltage, just don't exceed 1.5
