Q9300 ES Overclocking trouble

1468 Views 21 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  2thAche
My Problem is, Every time I push my Bus past 343 Mhz my system will not boot and will revert to the stock 333 Bus. I have set my volt to 1.2v and 1.25v and still nothing. How can I over clock this CPU to 3 Ghz? My system specs are posted below, it is a Q9300 Engineering Sample btw.

Currently 2.57 Ghz at 343 Mhz 7.5x

If you have a setting called Static tRead value in that Gigabyte board, set it to 10 and try again.
I have tried both suggestions and nothing has worked. can not go past 343 Mhz still and it is driving me nuts.
i think you are having troubles because u have a cheap board, i have read alot about the g41 chipsets being very crappy overclockers, But im picking one of the exact same boards u have tonight to replace the crappy acer oem board i have, so i can get some overclock out of the my proc , i'm also picking up some g skill nq 1600mhz, dout the board will even hit those ram speed because it doesn't even support 1333 mhz, only an oc, but i will let u know how the overclocking goes with my dual core, not a very good comparison because u have a quad core, but im expecting it to hit a wall around the same fsb that u having troubles with. also u have the board ram capacity maxed out some boards dont tend to oc well when the ram is maxed out,
ryley, be sure to check the date, so you don't bump old, irrelevant threads. Besides, how did you even find this?
ahh yea, sorry my bad, i was just doing some research for this old computer im doing a little work too, and stumbled upon this, LOL i see u have a new board now, i had that same one with my q6600, i guess i better start checkin the dates b4 i start posting LOL
Where did I ever imply that anything related to 775 is irrelevant? Don't put words in my mouth. This thread was abandoned 4 months ago.

Well, I'm done here.
the g41 I have hits 1333 for ram at a 1:2 ram ratio. I have forgot about OCing this board and should have my incometax(after months and months) and will be moving up to an I7 series. This system is more than enough now but i want it to be more than enough a year from now. But I have lots of advice if you want to email me direct at [email protected]
one more thing, do you use four ramsticks? this would reduce your fsb wall. what are your exact bios settings? besides, i looked at your boards spec.. http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...px?pid=3743#sp ..the thing is that 333mhz is max for that board as the max supported fsb results in 1333. so your oc result is a average oc potential for your board.
maybe you can get an used 775 for 80$ or something?!

hope this helps

I have the same board and cpu, same exact issue. Did you ever OC it pass 2.57?

I see your board is a Asus P5Q, doesnt that have a FSB of 1333mhz as well? How did you OC your mhz so high with s q9300?

You're hitting the limitation of the G41 chipset.

343mhz is all you're going to get from your board.

Step up to a P45 chipset if you want to really OC...

thanks, makes a lot of sense now. I should've went with a better board. Wish I was on OCN back when I bought it.
