The Quad should be better now a days. The only difference is that the Q9505 has half the L2 Cache.

I'm fairly sure you meant Q9550. The Q9550 is two E8400 slapped together. Only on applications that can use more than 2 cores will you see any significant difference. Unfortunately, the Q9550 are priced out of the market, so it makes no sense to buy one. You can buy a 955 and a motherboard for less than you can buy a Q9550. It's really up to you if you need more than a dual core right now. I don't, but I swapped to one only because the entire upgrade cost me $40.
Edit: Nevermind, I see there really is a Q9505. I've never seen it before.

I've got an E8400 and I've been looking at Q9550 and Q9650 on ebay. I know I can get about £75 for the E8400. So if I can get either of those quads for £130ish, I'll be alright.

As for the Q9505, I wouldn't have it over my E8400, or maybe I would...I dunno, it's got half the cache and I just wanted something that was potentially double what my E8400 is now
