Hi guys, could use a little help here as im scratching my head at the min.

So got a q9550 on a Asus p5q deluxe MB with this fan on it. http://www.jimmspc-store.fi/tuoteinf...=1302534110144 . Im using arctic silver 5 paste. All this in a gigabyte aurora 3D case.

My system temp is 43 on idle.
Now im struggling to get decent temperatures on this thing.
So on stock clock idle with real temp im getting
C1 44
C2 44
C3 44
C4 45

And on using prime 95 im getting

C1 61
C2 61
C3 60
C4 64

Now bear in mind this is at stock speeds of 2.8Ghz.

I upped the FSB to 353 to hit 3Ghz and was getting into the 70s under prime so dropped it back down. All bios settings are on auto including vcore ( i did lock it to 1.20 and the temps lowerd but it was unstable on IBT)
Reapplied paste, reseated fan and checked heatsink and all appears good but looking around on google it appears people are getting much lower temps than me and obviously im not going to be able to clock it up to 3.6ghz with these temps. My modle of CPU is the C1 version but would that make all of a difference.

Any ideas guys? Really could use some help.

Sounds like it's not a very good heatsink. If you already re-applied the paste then I don't think there's much you can do besides replacing the whole heatsink or replace the stock fan on the heatsink with a better fan. You could also try to improve the airflow in your case.

check the seating reapply the paste not too much or too little.

if your case temp is 43 idle then try and improve the airflow that's pretty warm.

Yeah true guys, cant think what else is causing those high temps other than its a crappy fan (was quite expensive tho an had some good reviews). Thinking about getting a h50 and replacing all the fans on my case as they are stock that come with the 3D aurora case. System temp is hovering around 43-47. Does that sound warm inside the case to you guys?

Also anyone got any experience with the H50? Slight worrying thing to me is that i have to have the fan blowing air into my case is that right or can you have it exhausting like normal?

Thanks lads.

47* sounds very warm to me, that is hotter than my cpu runs while folding >< remember that your case temp is a absolute minimum temperature even the best cpu cooler in the world can get your processor too.

Im guessing form that website your in Finland so I doubt its ambient temp pushing it that high.

Take a serious look at the fans and how they are layed out in your case, run a test with the side off and desk fan pointing into the case or whatever.

That cpu cooler whilst not one I've seen seems decent enough from the reviews so doubt that is a huge factor. So dont rush out to blame that for the performance issues yet, I really think your case temps are a far bigger problem.

The h50 ideally would be sucking air in yes

45+ for system temp is too warm. I don't think any of my systems are over 35.

I've got two H5Os presently. They'll cool about as well as a high-end air cooler, with less noise and alot less bulk inside the case.

Post a pic of your case with the side door off so we can see your airflow situation.

PS: I set up all my H5Os to exhaust air. Case temp should not be that different from ambient if you have good airflow, so I'm not buying that you need the "cool" air from outside. IMO the point of watercooling is to get the hot OUT of the case by not having a heatsking blowing/radiating heat inside the case, why blow the hot air in when you can blow it out?

Ok here you go lads, sorry about the glare, flash is quite powerful and also apologies for the state of the case with the wiring

I have the CPU fan pointing upwards due to the fitted heatsinks on the motherboard (only way to fit it in is up an down) If there is anything you can spot that you think is out of place id appreciate it.

Cheers lads.

can you re upload them with arrows indicating which direction each fan is facing.

Tidying up the cables will help a small amount emphasis on small but without knowing what direction each fan is moving air not much we can say,

First this is to turn that CPU cooler 90 degrees so the fan is on the right. I'm assuming the two 120s at the rear are exhaust, that will throw the hot air out the back. The one up front is intake, right?

Looks like you can run some of the cabling (like the ATX power) behind the mobo tray, that will help. Do you have another intake in the case door? Anything up top?

2thAche only problem is because of the big heatsinks on the P5Q deluxe i can only have it facing up or down, wont fit in any other way as the fins on the cpu heatsink wont go past the fins on MB heatsink but ill try and get those cables behind the tray, thanks for the tips guys. Only have the one intake on the front im afraid.

hmm well nothing wrong with the path of the airflow just no enough of it I guess, how do you feel about drilling holes in the top/side/bottom of your case?

is there anyway to add an extra fan at the front? how powerful are the fans you have?

Dr216 didnt really fancy getting too creative with my case hehe, However i think i can remove the top drive bays and squeeze another fan in there. The 3 120mm fans i have are stock gigabyte fans and i think the RPM on them is about 800. System temp now after idling most of the day 43-45.

What do you guys think of these fans? Was thinking about wacking 3 of these in. http://www.xigmatek.com/product.php?...&type=overview

before you mod anything see what swapping those fans out for some nice high cfm ones does.

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/coo...s-roundup.html is a compare of a large number of fans, Find some that you can live with the price/dba but have the highest possible flow rates, personally im a big fan of gentle typhoons but there are plenty of other great fans out there.
