Anything over 3 cards is garbage. The scaling takes a serious hit and is almost nonexistent for the 4th card, I.E. you will pay for a paper weight. Also, the 5970's in quad fire are awful. They have serious problems with screen tearing because of the extra procession time. Also, the scaling is horrendous. If you want TriFire, your best bet is 3 5870's.

^^It's not garbage, not necessarily. It just won't net you the fabulous returns that 2 and 3 way return, nevermind the fact that 5 series cards were never great at cfx scaling. This and the fact that you need a lot of horsepower to push 4 cards. And getting that much power, you'd be better served going to new cards. Starting from scratch, I can't fathom a reason to choose 5 series Radeons, at all.

No, its garbage. The scaling for the fourth card drops to almost nothing, if not negatively impacting your performance, especially on the 5xxx series cards.

Find me a review in which 4 5xxx cards were used well for gaming, and I will revise my statement.

Read it again.

I didn't argue that 5xxx cards could pull it off, but that 4 way isn't necessarily garbage but that the 5xxx cards suck at it. Obviously since 5xxx cards were never great at scaling, going 4 way isn't the most pragmatic solution right? 4 way with 69xx card's has potential, given the right cpu to push it.

I agree with that. However, I think there may be a problem in the buffers and the amount of time it takes for the renderings to make it to the display when running the 4th card. Screen tearing in QuadFire dual GPU setups are examples of this.
