Hey guys, I believe it's been almost 2 years now since I've posted on any OC forums and I'm looking at doing few upgrades to my old, what used to be "Ultimate Setup".

Here's the PC(Asus-A8N Deluxe, [email protected], Raptors Raid-0, 7800gtx's, Corsair XMS 2-2-2-5)...

Here's my 256mb 7800gtx's...

And here's a few pics of the overall setup for you to check out...

The main question that I'm looking to have answered is about a video card upgrade. I'm thinking about selling my 256mb 7800gtx's that have been working out great for me running @ 495/1350 for 2 years now. I would like to upgrade to a 8800gtx, but the funds arnt all there.

How much of an upgrade will I see going from (2) 7800gtx's to a single 8800GTS, or will I need buy a 8800gtx to really see a difference.

I play bolt-rifles only in COD2 about 3-4 hours a day right now, but plan to play alot of crysis when it comes out.

Thanks for any input that you may have.

What about the 8800GTS, it looks to be about $150 less?

Slightly off topic, but is that a JL Audio 8W6 in that subwoofer enclosure? If so, I need to purchase that and am willing to make it worth your while

Yeah the 8800GTS 640MB would be faster as well.

Thanks for the helpfull info. Do you happen to have any bookmarked pages that display a benchmark comparison between 7800gtx's SLI vs 8800GTS/GTX? Everything Im finding only compares a single 7900gtx to the 8800 series.

LOL, it's all good. Nah its not a 8w6, it's a 10w3 in a 2 cuft t-line enclosure tuned to 28hz with 300rms on it. It's very effecient and gets loud and very very low with amazing sq. I love JL for there SQ. I can prob help you fins a 8w6. I've got over 1000 posts on caraudio.com and know a bunch of distributers that prob have stock of older JL stuff.

I'm a pretty big car bass audiophile...

My newest box is in the middle, it houses (2) 18's and it's 15cuft...

This is me test fitting it in my blazer before it was fully completed, it just fits...

Here's a video of just a single 18" sub that was getting 4000watts rms, listen the vibration of this buildings roof...

Words cannot describe how appreciative I'd be if you could find 1 JL Audio 8W6

Don't know how convincing that is but there you go.

(note: 7900GTX is only a tad bit faster then 7800GTX 512MB)
My 8800GTS 320 can beat 7900GTX 512 SLI, not by much, but enough o make a difference. And, the kicker is, the 320 costs $260. Now, obviously if you pump the resolution way way up, the SLI will reign supreme.
But in terms of 3dmark06, not everything i know, but a very good benchmark.

Heres an example...
8800GTS 320 vs SLI 7900GTX
that bass is unreal man. props on that setup! im a big bass freak as well!
Even an 8800GTS 640MB beats out 2 7800GTX's in SLi, which is pretty sad. I have a 7900GTX and it is a powerhouse! I play Battlefield: 2 maxed out with 8xAA/AF without a problem.

NiNja
I'd keep your already beefy 7800GTX's, and upgrade your CPU to a second-hand FX60, or other dual core CPU.
Go C2D or Q this July when the price drops. If you got the dough, there is no better option for you.

My friend has a 7800GTX...it's about the same as a 7900GT. Another friend has a 7900GTX and it blows the 7900GT, 7950GT, and the 7800GTX out of the water...

Thats great & good info. I've got my mind now set on getting a GTS, but now to decide between the 320 or 640.

The GTS 320mb is selling for around $280 and the GTS 640mb is $90 more selling at $370.

Since I only have a FX57 will this cause a big bottleneck, should I just stick with the 320?

Where will I see the extra memory of the 640 come into effect?

Do you guys think I can get at least $130 for each dual slot 256mb 7800gtx, I haven't spent too much time on the classifieds yet?

I'd get the 320 and save up for the 9800's coming out this November

The extra memory will come into effect at extreme levels of AA, or very high resolution. I run 1680x1050 with 4xAA and don't run into any issues
