I just received my Raidmax Glacier heatsink & fan. Now, the question is, I have that heatsink compound from Radio Shack (I know, I know, I hear the rants already) presently at my home. My friend has OCZ Ultra 5+ Silver Thermal Compound.

I know that allegedly (don't know from personal experience, and testing from various sources have different responces as well) Arctic Silver +5 is the best. But, given the product that I have available at this point in time, what would be the best to use, or are they basicly the same?? The Radio Shack stuff is the white compound. That's all I know at this point (don't have the tube in front of me at this point in time, I'm at work).

Any and all help is greatly appreciated. I've refrained from OCing my 3000+ Venice until I have had a good heatsink solution, and I'm not ready to jump into the water cooling arena yet.

Thank you in advance.

Artic Silver can make a 5C or better difference in temps over generic thermal paste. I know because I changed to artic on one of my pcs a couple of years ago on someone's recommendation and it worked. Spend the $10 and get some, it will be worth it.

the difference between radio shacks and Ultra 5+ Silver Thermal Compound is almost nothing. I heard people say they drop 10c with the silver but maximum pc did a study on thermal paste and here are the results

-------------- (idle) -- (Load)
arctic silver 5 - 36-- 54
arctic ceramique - 35 -- 53
OCZ silver 5 - 36 -- 53
Frozen CPU - 37 -- 58
Generic (radioshack) - 40 -- 54

theses were all tested on the FX-55 with stock heatsink and fan

I read that article in Maximum PC, and that's what I thought. I didn't think there was a real difference (from their testing) between the AC5 and the OCZ5. I just didn't remember which month they did that test.

A friend of my already has the OCZ5 and that's where I'll get it. The computer shop I get my parts from couldn't get me AC5, and I want it like, yesterday. So I'm looking at all options right now because I want to get this heatsink/fan on the rig and see how it works.

I appreciate all the input. Thank you guys!!
