A fellow BF3 clan member is selling me his unopened EVGA GTX 680 card for $350.. Seeing that its reference, It should be effective for me for my BF3 Shenanigans..
But I wanted to know if the EVGA Reference card for the 680 has enough headroom for OCing without having to put either a much better fan system or a Waterblock for Watercooling on it to do so.. Is there any headroom?
Either way I can help but jump at the deal.
After I get my concerns answered I will search the forums on what to do when OCing.
If your case has good airflow. I ran both of mine in SLI oc'd to 1240 on air, fans at 100% and ran 80 C for BM'ing. You should do well backing it off a bit.
If its any aid, my case is a InWin Dragon Rider. THe stock fans run surprisingly quiet for me..But I have a headset on so I wont hear it. The fans are in a Push Pull type of configuration.
There's really no way to know - it depends on the chip/card. I got mine to 1280, but a lot of other people top out around 1200. Really just luck of the draw.
Some of the MSI cards have voltage control through software, wereas the EVGA's did not. Nvidia put a stop to it after a bit for some reason. If the MSI has an earlier date of manufacture, go for it, you'll be able to overclock more.
