Hi all,

Look at trying to mount a 9x120mm rad internally, on a case door.

I need to know how much space there is inside. If you could measure from the outer edge of your graphics cards, to the case door, that'd be a great help.

Thanks.

you want to mount the rad on the case door? if so then I don't see that working out very well. You can mount it up top pretty well though. here's a good pict to show you the space up top

you would need to swap the windowed side for a solid one but you should be able to fit a rad like that possibly even in push pull between the top of the gpu and the side.

would it not be more sensible to mod the case slightly and get a 3x140mm in the top and a 2x200mm in the bottom think that gives you a greater rad surface area. and im pretty certain it would fit, not tried though im only wcing my cpu so really the 360rad I have is already massive overkill

It would make much more sense to put a 480 up top (mod the top) and another 480 + 240 in the bottom compartment. If you mod the bottom compartment to be similar to that of a TJ07, then you can fit everything no problem.

It is actually not that hard if you have the right tools to mod the bottom in that fashion.

why blow the hot air into the case? just mount it externally or go w/ a few of the different approaches mentioned above.

I got two RX480 in my 800D, check my log for the journey my Obsidian had these last few months

Not to be rude, but rather than suggesting what I should do, could one of you 800D owners take the ten seconds and grab a measuring tape, if only to humour me?

Solid vs. windowed panel it a moot point. I'll be getting the 700D. I included the 800 because it has the same dimensions. As for blowing hot air into the case... well with a 9x120 rad, the air isn't going to be that much warmer than ambient, so I don't really care if my northbridge is 3°C warmer.

I know it would make a lot more sense and be much easier to mount a 120/140 triple in the top, but I'm running a 360 at the moment in a different case, and it's not doing nearly as well as I'd like.

LOL, sorry, I have 2.5 inches to my GTX 570s, 2 inches to the power connectors to the cards. Whaterblock fittings makes it only 1.75 inches. Location of the rad on the door will depend on the actual installation.

1.75 inches... So internal fans and external rad. The ideal situation for me would have been for everything to be internal, but having the rad on the outside was what I'd always pictured, so that works.

The reason I'm thinking on going for a 9x120 versus a 360+240 is that I want VERY slow spinning fans, even passive if I can manage it. A single 360 can cool my two GPUs and CPU, but that's with 1350RPM fans on full blast.

And as is turns out, my ATCS 840 has more room than that. 2.75 inches (approximately) from the block to the door. Guess I'll be saving some money there.

was going to when I got home but seeing as you decided to be impatient and rude I think Ill just not bother.

No one has told you what you should do, they are suggesting practical alternatives which will give you equal or better cooling options. you are welcome to ignore them as you wish they are just alternative options to get the same rad area to fit better in the space.

Sementics. I never said I didn't appreciate the alternate solutions, but it would have been nice if my original question could have been answered along with them. for all I knew it was a moot point because there might not have been enough space to begin with.

In my first post I more or less answered your question, I was at my mrs last night so not gone home to actually measure it, but there is certainly enough space for a rad with at least push config probably push pull but I doubt you would fit shrouds.

If I leave out the EK SLI bridge, that give me an extra .75 inches. Bringing my grand total of space up to 2.75 inches, or ~70mm, which should just be enough for a Phobya 1080 rad and 25mm fans. Rad is 46mm thick, but I think I can give the extra mil. to panel flex in the door. Worse comes to worst, I remove the centre fan, or whatever one hits the cards. (this assumes I even need fans at all, bearing in mind that all my case fans will be running 5V exhaust.)

I prefer the ordinary on the outside, extreme on the inside approach.

a 1080 rad sticking out on the side of your rig is no where near ordinary
.

As a friendly suggestion, I have seen someone w/ the a MagiCool 1080 rad, it was mounted on hinges and a custom bracket vertically like a door. thus it could be pointed in different directions. This will give you easy access to the rad and fans. Only major objection most would have with this setup (including me) is that fact the rad is external. I don't have a pic but you can easily imagine this setup

Yeah, that's true, but it's less... conspicuous, I suppose, then a window with a bunch of neon on the other side. Maybe I should have said "unobtrusive" rather than "ordinary".

I've been considering that as well, but I'm leaning away from it for a couple of reasons:

1) I don't have that much space at the moment, and I'm not sure where I could put the rad that it would get event the same ventilation as being on the case door.
2) I don't want someone to knock the thing over.
