assuming you have two partitions then you should be able to format one partion without harming the other.
Quick Dual Boot Question
I am going to try dual booting again with windows xp pro and vista x64 and I was wondering If I were to want to safely remove vista If I still have fps problems, is there a clean way without losing any of your files on the same hard drive? Thanks in advance.

no if you format the vista partition it will mess up the boot files an you wont be able to boot into xp. i did that once.
