I'm currently running the rig in my sig with Windows Vista 32bit. Going to either add another GTX 275 or will buy a 1-2gb GTX 560ti or 6950
Newegg has Windows 7 64bit on sale right now for $85 so I am contemplating upgrading
I know Vista 32bit limits system memory to 3gb so I don't have use of all 4gb of my ram. However, does that include my 768mb VRAM on the GTX 275? Which is soon to be 1gb or 2gb with a 560ti or 6950.
You 100% sure about that? I've heard both it does and doesn't. So confused lol
2^32(bit) = 4,294,967,296 bytes
You can have a MAX of 4gb addressable memory. Graphics cards will use the most ram address space, and in DX9 graphics cards would use their entire framebuffer's worth of VRAM in system RAM (so a dual 1GB crossfire setup would only leave you with 2gb of usable system ram). In DX10/11 this problem doesn't exist as much, but I would still strongly urge a 32-bit user NOT to have a dual graphics card setup, as you'll be losing a lot more system ram to the cards.
Don't forget, it's not only graphics cards that can eat away at what the OS can hand out to programs - other hardware such as raid controllers etc and the pagefile also chip away at it.
