2x gtx 460 1gb versions are cheaper perform better in most cases, run cooler and almost the same watts as a Single 480.

But you run into the problem of Once you have 2x 460, thats the max potential

Atleast with 1x 480 you can add more over time.

I would go for a single GPU solution versus an SLI. Less hassle with drivers when going with 1 Vid card versus trying to deal with some SLI driver issues. So go for the 480 since it is more future proof versus going SLI now with the 460 (plus no tri-sli anyway to future proof as well). Hopefully drivers have matured by the time you decide to SLI which would theoritically make it less of a hassle to go SLI down the line.

Size doesn't matter for a video card but resolution do, 24" 1080p = 55" 1080p for a video card.
But of the 2 options if you go with 2 460's you get better performance than a single 480 BUT that's it, that's the end of the path for the 460's you'll have to sell them next time you want to upgrade, but going with a 480 you have less performance than 2 460's but you can Sli it later and that will destroy 2 460's and if you need even more power then you can add a 3rd and a 4th if needed.

on the DFI site it says:
Expansion Slots

* 2 PCI Express (Gen 2) x16 slots (PCIE 1 and PCIE 3) - 2-way CrossFire at x16/x16 bandwidth 2-way CrossFire + Physics at x16/x16/x4 bandwidth
* 1 PCI Express x1 slot (PCIE 2)
* 1 PCI Express x4 slot (PCIE 4)
* 3 PCI slots

guess no sli
