What do you expect for an Intel Extreme Edition?? Heck people are still paying $1000+ for the 965 dualy, in my opinion that is a great price for a quad core unit, and more then likely it will have a completely opened multi. I can see some pretty reasonable prices on the non extreme quads.

Those prices are unrealistic, not saying they're fake just outragious. I mean are they even THAT great of a product, what are they used for. They must be aimed towards Bill Gates or some other outragiously wealthy group. I wonder if any of us normal folks will ever buy one.

Cheapest I found on froogle is $1,016.02, but that's Falconsoft (think I have heard some negative things about them)
http://falconsoft.com/item/94156D

Next up is $1,058.87: http://www.techonweb.com/products/pr...=D08841&src=FG

And those sites have it correct: It's a Core 2 Extreme, hence the QX designation: Q for Quad (and NOT Quadro; that name has been dropped in favor of Quad as far I know), and X for Extreme.

When all is set and done, expect prices of below $1,000 when they hit the main (r)etailers.

Hmm every new EE chip has been over a grand at its release. Getting a 4 core EE chip for the price of a dual core EE chip seems pretty fair to me. Its like buying 2 x6800's for half the price the only differance is the stock clock speed which doesnt realy matter as it will have unlocked multi's up and down. Unrealistic, I dont think so, out of 90% of the users budget yeah Id agree with that. The places that a chip like this will come in handy the best will be in rendering and crunching as it would be able to do 4 times the work and about 8 times faster then a CPU like yours.

I'm planning on getting one, heavily discounted though, otherwise I probably couldn't find the cash for it easily.

Though I agree, there is nothing wrong with those prices, especially at release. Thease are quad core, brand new CPUs. The pricing is actually right in line with what was expected, though some places were reporting un-realisticly low prices a few months ago. You can get a quad core 6700 for what you could buy 2 dual core 6700s for, seems about right......and you only need one motherboard to run the quad

Core 2 Duo prices will drop a bit I would suspect, but not much as these Quad's are not replacements for the Duos, they are high end new product lines. Targeted at the extreme user and business that deal with CAD and rendering.

I plan to build a DVR with 6 tuner functionality for this CPU, with all that recording and encoding, I will need the power of 4 cores.
