So i seen for 200$ i windforce r9 290 near me that i can get in person.

But i have no idea if the vrm on these thing will be brand new after that probable amount of mining... or they run at 100c+ ?

They are 1 years old Gigabyte Windforce r9 290 im in canada and it 200$

I have a 7950 dual-x STOCK CANT OVERCLOCK ANYMORE WITH THAT CRAP.........

What you think will they be in perfect shape Capacitor wise and vrm. or almost dead
rolleyes.gif

Btw 7950 boost to r9 290 seem like a 50% + upgrade in gpu power i am right?

The 7950 will be retired in a steam Streaming pc and may fold
smile.gif

I mainly want to be able to push Supersampling in some game and or msaa

Arma 3 150%-300% cause my 7950 to throttle even at 20%

A 290 is about 22% faster than a 7970. So probably about 30-32% faster than a 7950.

Yes it will certainly be an upgrade, be careful with used cards tho, never know what kinda condition they're in, and gotta be extra careful warranty wise

Sound like a downgrade. but the r9 290 is always in the back of the 7990 be like 15% stock so overclocked idk

Windforce should overclock for 10% + gain i think

Or i wait for something else i just cant spend 400$ on a 970 to get 15% better performance than a r9 290.

and amd and nvidia seem stuck in the architecture work

and intel seem stuck hard that why i got the 4790k

Sorry I don't understand, why do you think it's a downgrade? It's 30%+ faster than your 7950. Windforce card is loud and runs hot though.

tbh, I wouldn't want to take the risk of flashing a 290 to a 290x for the minimal gains you may or may not achieve, far better to simply overclock in my opinion.

A friend of mine overclocked his core a little bit (can't remember exactly how far) and saw some nice gains in performance.

yea i did overclock and see nice gain with my 7950 but the default bios is so bad that it cause problem even stock so i use the boost bios that run like crap....

Will get the r9 290

Loud my h75 and 4 case fan at 100% currently [email protected] at 80c 4790k at 80celsius... is not loud to me. Sure my 7950 at 60% fan speed is loud a bit. idk for the r9 290 ?

Windforce runs really loud because the fans need to be run at high speeds to keep the card cool. It's a poorly designed cooler (as most of the original 290 series coolers were) so you need to run 70%+ fan speed to keep the card in the low 80s. It's near the 50dB range.

The 290 windforce at 100% fanspeed keep core at 70c (+/-) and the 290 would be 35% faster than a hd 7950 by no means is a side grade.

Of what i seen on kitguru the windforce is like 10c hotter than the tri-x. and is not that loud

http://www.kitguru.net/components/graphic-cards/zardon/gigabyte-r9-290-windforce-oc-review-1600p-ultra-hd-4k/29/

core can run at 90c no prob

the Capacitor will fail if they are too hot ( near vrm ) if vrm are hot

105c for 5000k but 115-125c is like 2k hour

Their test is not very accurate. Those dB numbers are not anywhere near reality. You definitely do not want your card running at 90c regardless of what AMD claims about them being "safe up to 95c". Keep in mind the Tri-X itself is a louder than average cooler (I have owned two of them).

http://us.hardware.info/reviews/5216/13/3x-amd-radeon-r9-290--2x-amd-radeon-r9-290x-review-asus-gigabyte-and-sapphire-review-asus-gigabyte-and-sapphire-noise-levels

More realistic dB numbers. And those are just load numbers, not 100% fan speed.

Varying results on your card show between 41dB and 46dB at load.

Dont give me idea

h60 or something like that could probably do ok. but even then need to cut the cooler in half and zip tie it to not lose vrm fan cooling.

and try to zip tie the cooler on it .

Anyone know if the h60 could do it ahaha

It's worth to upgrade. I've had a Windforce Gigabyte R9 290 for about a year now and it's still running like a champ (had it overclocked all this time).
