I'm sort of in a 'predicament' right now. I've been studying these two cards for maybe like 3 days (I make really bad purchases and I don't want to screw up another time), and I still can't figure out which is a good buy. Right now, I've got this budget of say... $200, give or take, and I just can't decide if I should get the ATi Radeon 9800 PRO 128MB or the nVIDIA 6600 GT AGP 128MB.

If you can help decide for me, that'd be really wonderful. My computer specs are right under the post (or check the Rig Showcase).

i would save and get a 6800gt because with the 9800pro your going to be ok(6000+ 3dmark03) of with the 6600gt (8000+ 3dmark03) i would save and def get the 6800gt or even better the ultra

So what kind of performance would I see if I decided to run Half-Life 2/Unreal Tournament 2004 with the 6600 GT AGP?

forget the 6800 gt... its gonna be 400 bucks for a good one and your power supply would have to be replaced if you really wanted to see it shine

the 6600 gt will run through half life 2 and ut 2004 easily

Yes go with the 6600gt. It is 190-220. You can probably find a 9800 pro for 160 or so but the 6600 gt is jst clearly better and will last you longer.

Most stores sell the 6600GT at fairy 200-225 dollars. I got the 6600GT OC at 250 dollars + tax. A little expensive, compared to online prices. But you dont have to wait - for those extra dollars, you get the card in hand. My 3dmark03 score with BFG 6600 GT OC is 9110 (nothing to brag about), still its a good score.

I got a eVGA 6800 and am unlocking the pipes with riva turner, I put Arctic Silver 5 on the GPU and it's running cool as a mofo now.

It's about $260 at Newegg, so it is a very good buy considering you can go to 6800 GT speeds.
