I've got a WD 500GB HDD (the WD5000AAKS). It has my OS on it and various other programs. If I get a second one exactly like it to do a Raid 0 setup would it wipe out the data on the first drive.

What kind of speed improvents would I see?

You will have to format both drives to creat the array. So yes, you will lose all data on the main drive. As for speed, I noticed a difference. Once you go to RAID, you never want to go back to a single HDD setup. I would recommend getting a 3rd drive (or have an external) for important backups.
