Ram Cooling

I never thought it was something that had much value but my RAM gets too hot to touch for long during Prime95 "tourture test" (using default settings).
So I am wondering, 35.00 a block to add WC for the RAM, I am just not sold, any feedback? I do see the really "maxed out" rigs on Utube have RAM cooling but I used to think it was more a dress up situation. You guessed it, BSOD at OC's over 4.1ghz (cpu voltage is as high as I want to go 1.6 loaded) I wonder if the RAM temp is a real issue. Perhaps RAM quality in general? Thanks.

Everybody hates to admit mistakes, but I dropped a Delta fan while it was running, it blew up
I was trying to fit it in the window fan holder spot on the 1200.

Ok understood, I did know air cooling was an option, off to the Corsair site to check it out, maybe Petras or Performance PC's sells them, sorry can't give you +rep.

Lots of incredibley expensive water cooling memory products out there I wonder who is buying it if it is a waste of money. Corsair and OCZ would not invest in making these products unless they expected to sell them. Way out of my league.
I second what Juggalo said. Watercooling your ram is really not necessary. A good air cooler should do the trick.

I really see no reason to w/c ur ram all you need is good airflow. You could get a ram air cooler instead

From what i've seen WCing ram sets give you like extra big heat sinks that go around your ram...but arnt connected to your loop. If you wanna waste money water cool your hdds.

zhevra, the reason I posted was I don't want to waste money (espically after dropping my Delta). I wasn't at all convinved WC ram cooling was the way to go.

Keeping people from wasting money is one of the best reasons for OCN to exist.

Must edit. There is water around the ram boards but it doesn't circulate in the loop? I will check this.

But the blocks are connected to your loop.

Agreed, I'm just stating on what i've seen. Not saying they don't exist : D I still think h20 hdd is pretty cool.

I think what he meant was that the ram sets come with extra big heatsinks that can be used in a water-cooling loop if so desired and can operate with or without the liquid.

Also, I would be wary of some of the "water-cooling ram kits" as some of them may have aluminum which is a major corrosive element in loops with copper.

Stvwndr, Have you looked over any of the new but yet to be released memory cooling products from Corsair? I hardly think Corsair is going to make such a catastrophic design error.
Right, I'm just saying that there have been problems in the past and that does not go hand in hand with saying there will not be problems in the future.

I believe the newer RAM cooling is mainly for people who want to run as few fans as possible (those 40-60mm fans can be quite loud in an otherwise silent system) or for those who want the most extreme performance whilst benching - i.e. Dry Ice and LN. Most practical people will find little to no need for them - if noise from the air coolers is a problem, use a slow RPM fan - most new DDR3 will require little to no cooling as they run much cooler than previous DDR2 modules which started this W/C RAM trend, iirc.
