Current Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...b3267fd73ad8b9

WTB maybe RAM:

Will this ram help my system? I feel its primarily my ram that's holding 4Ghz out of reach for me. Maybe I'm wrong?
At any rate what value or gain will I see from this upgrade?

Thanks again,
VEr

At 423FSB, your ram runs 846mhz 1:1. This should be a piece of cake for
OCZ Reapers as they can handle an FSB up to 533 or a tad more.

So your ram is definitly not holding you back.

That OCZ ram should be not that bad. May take a look at GSKill PK 1066 or PI 1000.

You should get close to 1066 5-5-5-15 with that.

So is it my chip?
Are there any benefits to the mushkin?

Every dang p95 run or Orthos run ends in a failure in no more than 2 minutes. Since I've resumed the battle for 4ghz my 3.8ghz is no longer orthos or p95 stable (which was never 24/7 stable anyway but i've been gaming on it). I've pushed the limits on the vcore all the way up to 1.37v, vdimm 2.2v, cpu vtt at 1.37v, nb at 1.41v. timings at 5-5-5-18. Isn't it a tad ridiculous not to have a stable 3.8OC with 1.37vcore?
No, there are no benefits to the Mushkins, it can run the same speeds as the OCZ Reapers. I suppose it's a C0 stepping E8400? In which case your OC sounds about right, mine is a very poor overclocker also.

What's your CPU GTL/REF voltage?

.67x i believe for the cpu gtl. I'd have to jump into the bios real fast to be 100% on that. Never changed it from stock. Should it be upped?

This sucks if it really is a poor oc'er. Seemed Like it would have been a decent one with getting to 3.6 on stock vcore.

I've got a lead on an e0 8500 for 140 shipped I'm wondering if i should jump on it.

Thanks for the help Andy

I have 8 gigs of that OCZ RAM, and it overclocks nicely. I have it at 1111Mhz @ 5-5-5-15 and 2.2 volts. Doesn't seem to hold me back.

EDIT: My E8500 is an E0, and I love it.

So your E8400 is a C0? Well, I don't think there is much else you can do, besides upping the voltage to 1.4v. I assume your memory is running 1:1 already.

Your problem might be your motherboard.I have a DFI Blood Iron also. They seem to be very finicky.Im not saying you cant overclock it to 4.0 or higher. It just a picky board.I have been trying to get to 4.0 with mine using a Q9550.I have had a stall at 3.74.I think the mushkins are not needed. We just need a DFI Blood Iron expert to give some advice.

Indeed a c0. I don't plan on upping it that high. I can just sell my chip and buy an e0. Thanks for the input though.
