So I'm building a PC, I have a decent laptop and just doing this for the fun of it. I was sourcing parts from around 2003-2006 so I have the following:

AMD Athlon 62 x2 4200+ / Radeon 4850 / 4gb DDR2 800 Ram

Basically going to play some older games, play music and watch a movie or two.

What OS should I install? XP, W7, Linux?

I managed to get all the parts case, psu, hard drives for under £70. Not bad for a building bug a little fun project for some old hardware.

I'm not bothered about the lack of support, and maybe XP would be a good call, is there any issues using Blu-ray, MKV files and steam on XP? Also 32 or 64bit?

yeah, XP would definitely be OP with those specs.

as far as BD - I just did a quick google search and here's probably the best answer I could find for you " search was, " Can blu-ray plays on Windows XP? "

in short of the article -

You need a special type of player to be able to use Blu-Ray and so long as it has Windows XP drivers available and installed, it will work. Therefore, when you buy the player, make sure it says XP on the box or it will only work in Vista and Windows 7.

hopefully this'll help.
