random crashes and all fans speed up

hi, so with my sig rig... it crashes and blank screens, the gfx card fan speeds upto 100% and stays there for no matter how long you leave it. so basically the computer is shut down and all the fans speed up? so first of all i went into the BIOS to look in there. as soon as I did this I got a message stating that an unstable OC had caused the problem, so I thought ok... removed the OC and continued as normal. However this problem continues happening? So I think it must be either power supply, processor or mobo. This problem occurs sometimes after hours of running or can happen during POST, so it's not a windows problem. I dont know what I can do, I have no other power supply's that would be able to run the gfx card power wise.

thoughts/suggestions? this is my main rig so it'd be nice to get it going again

I don't think it would be a power supply problem unless it's just a part of the PSU. If it was faulty it shouldn't make the fans speed up after everything crashes. Have you tried resetting the CMOS? I have no idea what could cause this though, but it could quite possibly be a MOBO problem
Maybe a mobo component overheating, or just plain broken. That seems the most likely cause, anyway.
Ok so i removed the GFX card. I replaced it with my old nvidia 7950GTX 512MB, it's running fine without any issue and hasnt rebooted in just over 6 hours. so maybe it's the gfx card? or maybe the mobo's PCI-E slot overheating? So whats the next step? how can I check if it is the mobo or gfx card?
Sounds like your graphics card is overheating and is causing the crashes. You said you have the card out of your system, have a look at the cooler and fan, dust build up can cause the overheating.

A can of compressed air will be able to blow all the dust out of the cooler and fan.Maybe reseat your cooler and apply new thermal paste

can a gfx card actually cause the entire computer to crash and not start properly?

Well maybe, since the monitor runs through the graphics card, it is starting properly but the card doesn't send signals to the monitor.
hey, ok so I took the gfx card heatsink off and there isnt much dust or anything. so heat isnt the problem. I put in my other spare card and again it runs fine with that. so I guess new card for me then? I also should get a new s775 mobo...

ahh well the card is working per say... it will if it hasnt been turned on in a day or so... I think it must be a heat problem. It will boot and show the post etc... and sometimes get to windows before crashing (other times it just crashes as soon as it's turned on).

It is a pci-e if so use an eraser to clean the card

you can
right. I tried compressed air but an eraser sounds good. and no the cpu has been the same for 2 years in february.
