I have a raptor x hard drive installed in my computer and it works fine. However, xp pro detects it as a removable device! Is this normal or should I be worried? Is there any way to fix it?

Thats absolutely normal, one thing you can do is hide the notification though, makes it a little less annoying. Any hot-swappable device (or SATA HDD) in your case, will show that icon. No pun intended.

Serial-ATA devices do that. Why? No idea. I have always wanted to 'safely disconnect' my boot drive though......

Windows cannot boot from USB devices. Something about the USB polling and how it would interfere with the HDD... I did see a webpage once that showed how to tweak the CD in an ISO form to get it to be USB bootable. Mac OSX can be installed on USB, though, but idk about Linux.
None of my SATA drives show up as hot-swappable. I do have an eSATA drive, and if i turn it off before shutdown (accidently), then everything freezes. So i wouldn't recommend removing it lol

Some kinds of Linux (can't remember which ones offhand) can be installed on USB. (These are usually the more primitive ones, though....I doubt you could isntall Ubuntu or Fedora on USB.)

If you "safely remove" your Windows HDD/Primary HDD while the OS is on you'll get "stuck" at the last screen and it'll freeze there. With the last sound you heard. Over. And over. And over.

I did it by accident.
