I was wondering if anyone was using the RASA Universal GPU block on an ATI card? What cooling did you use for the ram and vrm's? I have a Gigabyte 6850 and I not sure its a reference design otherwise I would get the full plate from koolance.

Does it have the AMD logo just above the PCIe connector? If so it is reference.

Otherwise, some simple RAM sinks and MOSFET sinks should do the trick.

Personally i would just go with a full cover block. If you try to sell it those ram sinks can be tough to get off and I've seen people pull the vrams off with the heat sink. Full cover block and keep the stock heat sink if you ever want to sell it.

I'm not sure if the card is reference design so it won't take the full block cooler. Also the Rasa seems to be able to be used in newer cards so it could be moved from one series to the next.

Most universal GPU blocks can be mounted on different series GPUs, hence the "universal" bit. For example the Swiftech MCW60 Rev2 is still usable today (and still has good performance) thanks to interchangeable mounting plates.

Skinnee did a test of a bunch here, check that out before you settle on a particular block.

I'm doubtful. Spacing and the number of vrams caries way too much from card to card to have one to fit different cards. you might be able to make one for 2-3 cards but they probably would be within the same series so it would be pointless since when you upgrade you would probably make that jump to a newer series.

i'm not thinking of mass production, just something like koolance's mvr-40 where you screw plates to it to cool the vrms. . .
total one offs, since you can get 1/8" copper plate and cut it to size/shape and mount the plate to a reusable block

If you are doing your own as a one off then of course it can be done. I would look at getting a long thin waterblock (like a Mobo MOSFET block) to attach to the metal plate.

Also, think about using some thermal glue or sticky thermal pads instead of making a mounting for it. I know it can be a pain to remove, but it will cut down on any machining work.

Probably quite easy really, if you do it post pics! Might end up as a fairly cheap way of fully WCing a GPU, at the cost of a little restriction.

Great price as well.

Decided on the Universal Block. Since I'm running crossfire I can't justify spending almost $300 on 2 blocks. Also with the universal, there is the opportunity to use it newer cards down the road.

same choice i made with my 5770's wasnt sure they where reference. I found that when i took off the stock cooler, there was nothing on the ram or mosets the only thing cooled was the gpu

i got the mc60 thing works great
