These are the parts i have chosen so far. What is good, what would you change? Or is the AMD Phenom II 965 even better as a gaming CPU? The build should be good for overclocking. Thanks.

CPU:Intel Core i7-920, 4x 2.67GHz, boxed (BX80601920)

CPU Cooler: Scythe Mugen 2 (Sockel 478/775/1366/754/939/940/AM2/AM2+/AM3) (SCMG-2000)

Mainboard:ASUS P6T Deluxe V2, X58 (triple PC3-10667U DDR3) (90-MIB7U0-G0EAY00Z)

RAM:Kingston HyperX DIMM XMP Kit 6GB PC3-16000U CL9-9-9 (DDR3-2000) (KHX2000C9D3T1K3/6GX)

Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon HD 5970, 2x 1024MB GDDR5, 2x DVI, mini DisplayPort, PCIe 2.0 (GV-R597D5-2GD-B)

HDD: (Two) Western Digital Caviar Black 1000GB, SATA II (WD1001FALS)

SSD: Super Talent Ultradrive GX MLC 128GB, 2.5", SATA II (FTM28GX25H)

PSU: Corsair TX 750W ATX 2.2 (CMPSU-750TX)

Case: Cooler Master Centurion 590 (RC-590)

If you're going to spend that much might as well get Liquid Cooling.
Build looks flawless, otherwise. Should be a beast.

So you wouldn't say that the Phenom II 965 is better for gaming than the i7 920?

I'd spend less on RAM and more on CPU cooling. System will be faster in the end.

Maybe by a nose, out of the box, but when OCing comes into play, the i7 is clearly the superior chip.

What RAM(maybe 2000Mhz) and CPU Cooler would you recommend? But no water cooling please, I just don't trust water.

The Mugen 2 is good cooler, but to really take an i7 to it's air cooled limits, you'll need something more.

Noctua's new NH-D14 is the best performing air cooler money can buy atm (it just nudges out the IFX-14 by a few degrees and is much easier to mount), but it costs an arm and a leg.

The Prolimatech Megalems would be my next choice.

You really don't need DDR3-2000. The performance difference between 1600 and 2000 in real world use is in the very low single digit percentages. To even run triple channel DDR3-2000 you need to run a 4Ghz+ uncore clock, and this is going to take a lot of uncore (QPI/vtt) voltage, and make a decent bit of extra heat.

Then again, most DDR3-2000 will run 1600 with tight timings and given current DDR3 prices, you may not save all that much by going with slower memory.

So, I'm really not sure on memory at this point. I think it's all a rip off (the 4GiB in my system was about 45 dollars total) as prices have jumped recently.

Thanks, i go with the NH-D14 then.

Are there any better Directx 11 video cards than the HD 5970 at the moment? What do you think about that 3D Vision thing from nvidia? Should I consider a nvidia card for that purpose? I need a new monitor anyway, so it can have as well 120Hz(which is needed for the 3D Vision).

Thanks.

GPU is overkill and you should be trying to get a D0 stepping i7 920. Also, Meghalems are much better.

I dunno... the 940 is godly when it comes to OCing with the stock fan. I've gotten a stable 24/7 speed of 3.61ghz currently and it's given me no problems. The 940 is about half the cost of the i7 920 chip anyway.
But this is, of course, coming from the budget gamer here.

Agreed. Not worth it.

System looks good, went all out huh? I take it this is primarily for gaming?
Is the SSD your system drive?

To be honest there's not much room for improvement right now. I'd recommend a megahalem cooler though. Rams a bit overkill, but really that seems to be the point of the system lol. What do you think of that PSU? I was looking at the HX (modular) version for a comparable build. At any rate, Looks like a beast. 10/10.

for the 1TB drives i get the new samsung spin point F3s. they are very good drives. and change the SSD to a OCZ Vertex or agility SSD. Other then that it looks great. Well except for the cooler get the prolimatech megahalem or Noctua NH-D14. The case is also pretty lame for that build. Why not get like a cooler gaming case or something like cooler master storm sniper or Antec twelve hundred?

why? its a true fact. when the core i7 is overclocked its beat phenom II in everything. These chips should not be compared though. the Phenom II X4 chips where meant to compete with intel Q9xxx chips.
