I'm thinking of upgrading to the PII 940 here shortly. Seeing as how it's not a super expensive chip.

I want to get the best bang for my buck.

So I'm not sure if i should just get the 940 or should i wait a bit and then get the am3 II's and new mobo to go along with it. but that also means that i will need ddr3 ram.

My big thing is that i dont want to have to upgrade like 8 months down the road cause my stuff is severely out of date.

What do you guys think?

Wait for the flagship AM3 chips. They won't be long in arriving

Buy a high end Quad from Intel then you wont have to upgrade in 8 months. You might get a year or a year and a half. There is no point in waiting for the latest because it will still be out dated in 6 months. The problem is when you get the new stuff when it comes out you pay a lot more than if you wait a few months. Its plain and simple what you get today will run most programs for good long time.
