Here on the forums, the age old question "how big of a power supply do I need" gets asked. A handful of users on this forum correctly provide estimates in reference to the size. Phaedrus Quick'n'Dirty PSU calculator is a great tool to be in a safe zone of the correct power supply required.

It is easy to check how much power your rig actually consumes by buying and plugging in a power meter. These little units are helpful and fairly cheap.

-For those in Canada: You can get a blueplanet EM100 power meter from Canadian Tire for $15 (on sale at time of writing).

-For those in the United States: A Kill-A-Watt is very popular.

It can give you peak Wattage, Voltage and Amperage.

Many user's here on the forums already have such a device. I would like users to record these values and submit their findings so that we can keep a record of real world values of power being consumed by systems. I will try to keep this up-to-date the best I can. The information needed can be in the format below similar to my first entry. For these tests make sure that your power supply is the only item plug into the meter. Remember that these meters record the power usage from the wall. You have to take into account the efficiency of the power supply. Multiply your value with your power supply efficiency (Eff) to see how much power your computer is pulling.

Prime95 is a great way to stress the CPU. However, after doing some tests, its does not stress the CPU complete with just one iteration. Using the blend test, the first iteration does not use enough of the instruction set to stress the CPU fully. You can either let the test run longer for Prime95 or select the 'In-Place Large FTT's'. Or you can use the program "Intel Burn Test".

Well meter inaccuracy aside, you're underestimating the power draw. At medium loads, the ModXStream Pro 600W gets more like 85% efficiency, and maybe a tad bit above 80% even at full load.

From the website it said 80% at full load so this is the value I will use. The lights dimmed in my room when Prime and Furmark started lol.

Added. Thank you. I did find that Prime95 pulled more than IBT even when I had IBT with 8 threads and max. I might look into that.

Also, you are getting really low values. The core voltage plays a big role in that. And your 6950 doesn't pull much either which is nice. The 480 just pulls too much.

This 6950/70 seems to pull less than my old 4870 1GB.

Pretty possible due to lower leakage, although it's rated to have a higher TDP. As you know, this's one of the common misinterpretations. People think newer cards would pull more power. They don't. Most the time improved manufactoring processes yield in lower consumptions.

here is my data, these are with powercap at +20% running OCCT

At Wall:
GPUS at 950/1425 (1.195v stock) - 940w average
GPUS at 950/1450 (1.195v stock) - ~942w average
GPUS at 950/1475 (1.195v stock) - ~945w average

With 85% efficiency factored in:
GPUS at 950/1425 (1.195v stock) - 799w average
GPUS at 950/1450 (1.195v stock) - ~800.7w average
GPUS at 950/1475 (1.195v stock) - ~803.25w average
GPUS at 950/1500 (1.195v stock) - ~804.95w average
GPUS at 975/1425 (1.2v) ~820.25w average
GPUS at 1020/1425 (1.27v) ~849.15w average

checked those with 3 different meters

By the way, for your ? marks, my CPU voltage is 1.125V, memory voltage is 1.9V, GPU voltage is 1.175V, and I have 5 fans.

Max Values:

Idle: 218.3W -> ~85% efficient -> 185.6W
CPU load (Prime95 small FFT): 349.7W -> ~86% efficient -> 300.7W
GPU load (3DMark 11 GPU test 1): 689.0W -> ~89% efficient -> 613.2W
CPU + GPU load (P95 + 3D Mark 11): 796.6W -> ~87% efficient -> 693.0W
