****My Lowest Budget Build Yet****

Okay, so this build is for an elderly couple that need a replacement computer. They have now an HP Desktop with a Pentium III (I believe) 1ghz, 128 MB RAM, 40gb HDD, and some old on-board vga. So they are taking there tax return and letting me build (after much persuasion) a computer.

Here are the parts:

CPU: AMD Athlon II 245 2.9GHz

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-M68MT-S2P

HDD: SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1TB (It was $55, so why not? lol)

RAM: Kingston ValueRAM 2GB

PSU: Rosewill Stallion Series 400w (hopefully this was a good choice)

Case: Rosewill R101-P-BK (Did anybody else have problems with the shipping code?)

OS: Going to use XP that was on the old machine.

Total: $272.70 after $15 using coupons. ($10 off for the F3, and $5 off for the PSU)

What do you guys think? By the way is a Geforce 7025 a good vga to run a 720p or 1080p monitor? No gaming will be done.

***Benchmarks***

I don't have the parts yet, should be in by Wednesday. However, I will be doing benchmarks on both machine to give you an idea of the difference lol. (should be good for laughs)

***Pictures***

I will have pictures up, hopefully, by Wednesday.

Hmmm... thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, I already have it ordered. I will definitely test it with a multimeter before putting it in the machine.

I'm guessing you're using the onboard IGP ?

The PSU should run those low end parts just fine, they don't consume much power anyway. In fact I would've used an even lower wattage PSU than that. The parts here will never exceed 100W total (65W TDP processor, integrated graphics, and not much else really). The PSU power rating should actually be as small as possible, as PSUs are more efficient closer to 50% usage than 20% usage. This Antec BP350 would've done just fine for a cheaper $25/$15 AR. You could've used the extra $20 or so to get a 2x2GB DDR3 kit.

The 1TB hard drive overkill haha. Still best bang for buck regardless lol. Nice build though

Yeah, I have a Rosewill PSU, its okay for the budget but its not great, I have already had to replace a fan in my PSU which I shouldn't have had to do but, at least I could fix it...
