recommend board for a Phenom2 940

which of these would be my best bet? I'm an amd-newbie but I was told that these with some (relatively) low latency ddr3 would be the best bang for buck amd system.

edit: so dd3r and 940BE isn't happening. so I'm asking which board is best for the 940BE?
Seems the best deal (and one of the most touted boards on OCN) is the foxconn a79a-s.

anything going to suit me better than this combo for $285?

IF I was making that choice for an AMD chipset, I'd go for the M4A79T just because of how well the previous model performed for overclocking with the 9900 series chips.
940 and ddr3 is a no go, they don't work together, since 940 doesn't have a DDR3 controller. So wait for 945, or get 810/720/710 to go DDR3
sorry to say but 940be doesn't support ddr3. just wait for the 945be.

they'll launch this 1st week of april anyway.

edit: he beat me up to it.

Ah. Thanks much! So I should go with the foxconn a79a-s for my 940?

(edited OP to reflect ddr2 recommendations)

xfire isn't required. but another pci-e slot might be great for a dedicated folder.

This board I have isn't too bad, the Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H

It's one of those ultra durable boards with the 2oz copper layer inside of it.

Still has a bundle deal with the Phenom 940BE

I second the board offered above, he posted first

thanks. So, is the Gigabyte worth the extra $30 over the foxconn?

Gigabyte supports 16gb of ram vs 8gb on foxconn, but foxconn has 4pci-e slots.Sot it's a personal preference thing, take the brand you like ,they are both good.

link edited. my bad.

Link does not work. It takes me to my shopping cart.

OP - The Foxconn is the better board of the two. The BIOS takes a little getting used to, but is well organized and gives a ridiculous amount of options. The Foxconn and 940 have set OCing records.
It's also a great board for folding.

Dag, I posted at the same time you did

All 3 of your links work fine now

I also agree.
That board's price tag should not fool you. It is a strong competitor to the Asus boards that cost $200.

Personally DFI is my favourite manufacturer.
DFI LP DK 790FXB-M2RSH
Tons of OC'ing features, and it looks cool to boot.
790FX/750SB is the top combo, and I guarantee this will rival/best any higher priced motherboard you were looking at before.
