I like the price of the xigmatek HDT-S1283 but the reviews I've been reading are reporting only 5c cooler. I'm not gonna spend $40 for 5c.

Suggestions anyone.

arctic cooler pro 7 is an awesome budget cooler, maybe lap it aswell as your cpu. but if you willing to spend more than go for the TRUE.
well if your not gonna spend $40 for a heatsink this is the best option http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835185093 but its currently out of stock.
i got a Vendetta 2 and it cools awesome. i'd say, Vendetta 2 or a Xiggy, either those or for more cash, a TRUE

5°c cooler than what? Intel Stock Heatsinks?

If so that's total BS, lol.

Back OT: xigmatex S1283 or TRUE.

Go with the TRUE. You can get some amazing temps better than some WC setups. I have one and I highly recommend it!
Xiggy or TRUE. Those are your best options.

It's not the price that turns me off but the price/performance.

I ran occt for 4 hrs with my cpu @ 3.0ghz (fan at 100%) and it never got above 54c. I just ran a little 10min test with the Smart Fan Control enabled and it was about the same. With that in mind, and I know there are a lot of variables involved, what kind of improvement could I expect/hope to see with a xiggy?

there will be a bigger difference than 5 dergrees with the Xiggy, Mugen 2, Vendetta 2 and the TRUE vs the stock heatsink. Once you start to add more voltage to increase your overclock is where the better heatsinks perform there best. Dont get the original verision of the Xiggy get the Dark Knight version it comes with a bolt thru kit already which is much better than the stupid push pins http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233029
you can buy my noctua for $50.00 free shipping.
xiggy, true, or the vendetta2 (same as xiggy afaik) or a noctua.
Right on everyone. Thanks for the input. I think I'm leaning towards the xiggy (dark knight) based on price and, well, it looks kinda cool. Yeah, ya know, cause looks are oh-so-important when trying to keep your temps down.

ya seriously, dark knight is pretty good for that price. Hopefully i can save enough to get a TRUE.
lol, nobody seems to be throwing in the good ol' tuniq tower! That's a good cooler for 50 bucks, if you really wanna pay more, get a v8 or a true. That 5 degrees C is total bs, i have the sd-964 with x-bow and my temps are 39C idle and get to about 53C at load.
