Hey gang, I am looking to get a couple of switches for my home network. Almost every switch I look at has multiple bad reviews with people that know what they are talking about.

I would like at least one 8+ port switch and a 5 port switch.

They should both be gigabit and preferably be able to pass wake on lan. unmanaged is fine.

Thanks for the input.

Unmanaged I'd recommend the HP ProCurve 1410G-8 (J9559A). If on a budget the previous model the 1400-8G (J9077A) is a solid choice too. Either model includes a lifetime warranty from HP, jumbo frame support, external power supply, and fanless operation. I'm replacing my 1400-8G with a 1810G as I now need VLAN support, but it was a great switch.

My other ProCurve an 1800-8G, you can't go wrong with HP. Or with that warranty.

Thought I would bump this to the top. I purchased the Dlink DGS-2208 and ran into auto negotiation issues. It didn't like to stream to my WD TV live box. It would drop down to 10mbps and kill the stream. I tried my 5 port netgear gigabit switch and it worked like a dream.

I bought the switch through newegg and they were kind enough to allow me to return it with no restocking fee and they are even paying my shipping back! I think I am going to purchase NETGEAR ProSafe GS108T-200NAS instead. A little more future proof since its a smart switch and has QOS VLAN and ACL. Luckily I was able to find all the accessories and save the internal packaging from the garbage on the Dlink.
