Recommend me a Motherboard

938 Views 21 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Massive17
The old motherboard on my dads computer is crap so I'm looking to get him something else. He has a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ 2.5 Ghz (Brisbane) and he just bought a Zalman CNPS8700 NT. Im looking for something not too expensive preferably $150 or less and I plan to overclock to 3.0ghz but to tell the truth I dunno how far I can push it with that heat sink so recommend me something that would fit my budget, any help will be greatly appreciated - Art

You can't really go wrong with the latest gigabyte boards for AMD or Intel.

Gigabyte does make good boards I will give you that but it is not bar none the best overclocking board out for AMD. I'll guarantee you that dfi mentioned above overclocks just as well if not BETTER than the Gigabyte and it supports the latest phenom II processors as well. Seems like there is some fanboy stuff going on in here is all.

Ya that DFI board is totally sick. And my fave out of the bunch, I just figured it was in the price range, so why the heck not. Imo, hands down will do better than the Gigs.

Fanboyism-not, just going with what I'm familiar with is all. No need to
out.

well the bored I'm going to recommended has already been done twice and is in my sig, but i might as well say why, the features on this board are amazing i was able to hit 290 bus (there was one other person that was able to hit it right off the bat as well), the 1200 ddr2 is a plus and its bios supports pretty much all the phenom II's out so far out of the box. and the raid setup was pretty easy for the most part, i was really out of it when i was doing it, so i screwed up and kept forgetting to put the windows disk back in :swearing: woo for being spacey lol.

heres a link to the other person http://www.overclock.net/amd-motherb...a790x-ud4.html

Just like the previous DFI listed, except this one is ATX.

Out of all the boards I've had, this is by far the most customizable. And I have owned the 790X-UD4 as well.

Hey thanks to everyone for helping me out (rep+ all around), but I just changed my mind since I'm such a good son I want to get him nice a motherboard with good overclocking abilities so that way I get him a phenom at the end of summer. So what would be a good motherboard that I can get that I can use with the Athlon 64 X2 4800+ now but later can upgrade to a phenom and overclock, budget is $200 or less but if there is anything better and costs a little more I'll still consider it.
Do you have a phenom picked out yet? $200 for both or just mobo.?
