First off, I read the "OCN Most Recommended" thread and it needs a little updating. Im using the template in the sticky, so here we go!
1. Budget is around $100. I can go up a little if its worth it, and of course spending less is welcome.
2. I listen to mostly rap and rock. Beastie Boys, Eminem, Nirvana, all those 90's rock bands that sound like Blink 182 ect.
3. Deep and plentiful bass, but not necessarily boomy. I have 2 15" subs in my car in a sealed enclosure, so Im used to very deep shaky bass, not so much "boomy" like 12's in a ported would have. This also helps out because deep bass will help with my rap music, without ruining my rock. Comfort is also a desire. Also, these will be driven straight off my laptop, so I believe something low impedance is wanted (right?).
4. I already have Skullcandy Titans (one of their few respectful models). Those they don't sound bad, using in-ears for hours on end is killing me.
5. They will be used at home while on my laptop for everything. Maybe some at college if I have the desire to listen to music. I do game, but mostly LoL, Sims, GTA, nothing that needs a special soundstage. But gaming is not a priority at all.
6. US of A. I'll buy from whoever's cheapest from places I already have an account with: Amazon, Newegg, Crutchfield, Sonicelectronix, eBay.
I'm considering the Sennheiser HD280's*, HD518, was considering Sony XB700's but apparently they're discontinued and the XB800's aren't as good? Open to more suggestions of course.
*my friend has the HD380's, I really like them, but I would prefer a little more bass, can I get this just from an EQ? (no EQ was set up when I listened to them)
