Im trying to get the best directional sound for gaming. Im using Astro A40s with an optical cable. I also listen to music. So what are the best possible settings for gaming?

are you using the amp and the headset or just headset? if its just the headset. when I had that sound card I had it set to stereo in windows control panel. in creatives control panel I had headphones and 3d checked (you can decrease/increase the 3d affect). if you're using the headphone and amp, I can't help you there. sorry.

Imho for best directional sound gaming using a Titanium HD. You need to have a game that has theater sound or 5.1 sound in the sound options. Then you need to go into your windows sound options and choose 5.1 output. And finally choose CMSS. I personally don't use the all the other stuff like eax or crystalizer. If the game sound options don't have a theater mode or 5.1 option I don't use CMSS.

This is what I use. But it doesn't work for all games so when that happens I just use the THX Surround in Enterainment Mode.
