Replacing rear exhaust fans on xbox 360

17507 Views 13 Replies 9 Participants Last post by  ZunePod
Does anyone know how to change the rear exhaust fans on an xbox because they are really loud and i want to replace them with faster and quieter fans, so if anyone could provide a link to the proper size fans that are faster and quieter and a guide on how to change them i would greatly appreciate it.

It's two 60mm fans. (proof)

Though, I wouldn't really look into replacing the fans, as they are not that loud, it's the DVD drive that is really loud.

You'd be hard-pressed to find a faster fan, those puppies are Deltas. It's a custom one though, there's two deltas side-by-side in a single oval housing, you probably won't find a drop-in fan to replace it. For an easy solution, I would take off the heatsinks and apply some decent paste, the fans are thermally throttled (you haven't heard half their volume yet). So by keeping it cooler you'll make the fans work less, and thus quieter. If you really want to replace it, I think you'll be hard-pressed to find an 80 (?)mm fan that's quiet and still good performance. Anything with decent airflow in an 80mm size is a server fan, and thus loud by design.

Apparently it's 60 mm's, disregard what I said about the size because that was from recollection.

The games i play are on my harddrive so the DVD drive is not working so the rear exhaust fans are the loudest also i want to keep my xbox cool.

Alright then nevermind seems like i need to do some modding. Thank you both for the helpful information +rep.

LOL water cooling set for 300 $ ?

Why would you get that....

IF it is to make your xbox last longer and run better, screw that, its the same price as a new one. Just use it normally and when it dies... by another, if thats the case.

Is this a luxury, no point, bragging rights kit ?
Look up Talismoon Whisper fans. They are a drop in replacement from what I understand. My only problem is I haven't found a non-LED version, and I don't need my Xbox looking like something from the Fast and the Furious.

http://www.talismoon.com/cgi-bin/ver...hisperfan-blue This is the fan i've got in my xbox 360. It is quieter than normal at lowest setting. Like when you are watching a dvd. But then it is louder than the stock when playing games. But it does keep the xbox much cooler than the stock fans.
