Resident Evil 2 Graphics settings

So, I was rummaging through an old box of PC games and I found my copy of Resident Evil 2. I remembered that I got it at a yard-sale and never even played through the Leon CD, nor did I play through Claire!! :O

So I installed it, downloaded the patch and changed the settings so that the saves would work on XP.

Now comes my new issue:

Low FPS

Who'd of thought? But yes, this is the issue, I'd assume the game has no clue how to use my hardware so my 8600 isn't working out too well.

I was playing with the settings and at one point I recall having it running in a window (fine by me) at an almost smooth framerate. However, I changed the settings (in the pursuit of performance
) and can't seem to get it working even decent again.

If anyone has any tips or tricks I can try to get this older game running well on my current rig, just post em out here.

Thanks in advance guys!

Edit: I was thinking of installing my old Nvidia TNT2 32meg PCI card. But that might be a little much in this case, and my mobo is micro ATX with only 3 PCI slots and a PCI-e, one has a modem in it already. (Dial-up FTW!)

trying to remember the settings. But you should try finding one of the patches online by google. That may fix it. I remember that sometimes lowering some of the graphic quality settings like Alpha or something helps the FPS without actually making the game look any different.

OT, it would be pretty awesome if you'd install that riva tnt2 card to find out it actually performs better than yout 8600GT

You could also try to run it in a WinXP virtual machine, VMWare has pretty decent 3d support from version 6.5 and upwards.
But it would probably be less of a hassle to just pop in the TNT2

If I recall Microsoft was giving out their VMWare platform for free back in the day, do they still? I'll try that too..

In the case of my TNT2, when I pop it in, will my Nvidia drivers go off the deep end or anything? Or do I really got nothing severe to worry about? Me and GPU drivers where never the best of friends...

It would be funny to see the TNT2 outperforming my 8600.

On another note, who are you reporting? OmegaNemesis28's post was completely correct, there is a patch that puts the game to V1.04. I already had it, and the "Alpha or something" spoken of is a setting that fixed a lot of people's issues in Resident Evil 3. I think the setting was "Alpha-Blending" but I'm quite sure it does not exist in Resident Evil 2.

I just realized that the fan on my TNT 2 is jammed up, so I'll get around to fixing and installing it when I get home later today.

If you did truly report me - for whatever stupid reason - consider yourself a hypocrite because saying that you reported someone is in itself against the rules.

Good job.

Thank you.
And yeah - you're right. Thats Alpha Blending in #3. My bad.

I'll try installing #2 later (since I reformated not too long ago and havent installed much) and give it a whirl myself. After playing RE: DC on the Wii - I'm in the mood for some RE2.

Heh, of course even the great OmegaNemesis28 needs to go back and enjoy the classics!

I'm working on the penny fix for my 360 right now, after that I'll see what I can do for my TNT2.

I look forward to your next post OmegaNemesis28.
