Results are now available:

Question 1 : How much was your last case?
From comments I could have gotten better results by extending the price range alot more. That said, I did manage to capture 85% of people within the chosen range.

Less than £25/$32 30 6%

£25/$32 to £50/$64 98 18%

£50/$64 to £75/$96 89 17%

£75/$96 to £100/$128 105 20%

£100/$128 to £125/$160 75 14%

£125/$160 to £150/$192 54 10%

More than £150/$192 81 15%

Maybe one of the problems with the question was my rather crude way of working out an exchange rate between GBP and USD. I looked for the best price of an antec 300 here in the UK and then went to Newegg and worked out an exchange rate from there.

Question 2:How many 5 1/2 inch drive bays do you need?
This Question had a lot clearer results..... for the most part. The results speak for themselves:
Bays People %
1 | 123 | 23%
2 | 176 | 33%
3 | 93 | 17%
4 | 75 | 14%
5 | 35 | 7%
6 | 17 | 3%
6+ | 13 | 3%

If you recall i also left a blank box for those using more than 6 to tell me exactly how many you use. 13 people decided they needed more than 6. OF these 13:
1 decided he didn't actually need any!
4 required 7 (you awkward people you!)
2 wanted 8
3 wanted 10
1 wanted 11
1 wanted 12
and
1 wanted 14! (what do you use all those for!)

What this tells us is that in order to satisfy 94% of the market 5 Drive bays are needed.

Question 3: Are external 3 1/4 drive bays still required?
I think this question created the greatest divide amongst you.

almost exactly 25% said YES
meaning
the other 75% said NO

The main reasons given for the yes answer was that Fan controllers and Card readers still come in the 3 1/2 bay adapters

The No's countered with answers such as: This isn't 1999! and the fact that FDD's are dead. And to be fair Fan Controllers and Card readers do come in 5 3/4 format as well.

Question 4: How many HDD Bays do you need?
1 32 6%

2 95 18%

3 120 23%

4 153 29%

5 42 8%

6 58 11%

More than 6 32 6%

A fairly clear cut answer here. To accomodate 94% of people requires 6 HDD bays. In theory if more were required spare 5 3/4 bays could be converted for those that need more although that needs to be further researched to see if the people that need more HDD bays are also the ones that need more 5 3/4 bays.

Question 5: Features
Perhaps the most interesting question here. Opinion varies greatly:

Feature |Important | Nice to have | Not concerned | Do not want
Window | 26% | 46% | 20% | 7%
Front door | 6% | 21% | 40% | 33%
Dust filters | 42% | 42% |11% |4%
Easy access side panel | 59% | 36% | 5% | 0%
Tubing holes (WCing) | 13% | 42%| 38% | 6%
Firewire port | 7% | 27% | 50% | 16%
Audio i/o | 30% | 38% | 27% | 6%
E-SATA port | 13% | 46% | 36% | 6%
2.5 Inch Drive bays | 12% | 37% | 42% | 9%
Stock/Included fans | 34% | 43% | 18% | 5%
Castors/Wheels 5% | 34% | 39% | 22%
Hinged Side panels | 8% | 41% | 36% | 16%
Carry Handles | 6% | 32% | 41% | 21%

Sorry if that is hard to understand this forum doesn't do tables.
Amongst the suggestions for features a case should have were:
Cheeseburga, rocketlauncher OCN App, Skittle and Orange Soda dispenser, a built in Lava lamp, Cowbell, and a Flamethrower..... not sure how good that would be for your temps tbh. Not to mention the other suggestions that would no doubt be ****ed by the filter...

But there were some good suggestions here so thank you to everyone who took the time.

Question 6: shall be skipped.
I have no idea what I was thinking with that one lol

Question 7: Expansions slots
7 | 305 | 57%

8 | 111 | 20%

9 | 51 | 9%

10 | 65 | 12%

While most of you are happy with 7-8 expansion slots more than enough of you want 9-10 for it to be said that they are actually needed in a case.

Question 8: Rear I/O placement:
An outstanding 48% said that it did not annoy them at all!
( This question was mainly included for my computer illiterate tutor who dislikes having to pull out his PC to get to the connectors)

Question 9: rendered Irrelevant by Question 8

Question 10: How much will you be spending on your next Case?
When compared to the Results of Question 1 These make quite interesting reading.

Less than £25/$32 | 5 | 1%

£25/$32 to £50/$64 | 31 | 6%

£50/$64 to £75/$96 | 80 | 15%

£75/$96 to £100/$128 | 110 | 21%

£100/$128 to £125/$160 |121 | 23%

£125/$160 to £150/$192 | 56 | 11%

More than £150/$192 | 129 | 24%

Seems everyone wants to spend more on their next case!

Question 11: What is important to you?
It seems a balance of Performance Style and Features is required from any new case according to my preliminary analysis.

Question 12: Final Comments
These were brilliant and very helpful..... for the most part lol.

I would like to thank everyone that participated in this survey and I hope to keep you updated as to my progress through this year.

[Edit] Many many thanks to all those that have completed my survey. For those of you that have NOT done it the survey will close next Wednesday (18th). Results should then be available to view HERE Thursday once I have done a little preliminary analysis of them.

For the sake of privacy I shall not be publishing individuals comments

I hope you find these results as interesting as I.

Thank you once again [/Edit]

Hello

Incase you did not see my previous thread I am conducting some small research into Computer Cases and their design.

This is for my Final year project at University so I would appreciate it if you could take the time and fill out this survey for me.

It should not take too long. Around 5 Minutes. 10 Minutes if you decide to write alot.

Please take the time to complete this.

It's interesting that you didn't ask "are you concerned with what materials a case is made out of? What materials (plastic, aluminum, steel, etc) do you like to see and why?"
