Mobo Changed To: GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard

Patriot Viper 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale

OCZ VENDETTA 2

Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache

EVGA 512-P3-1150-TR GeForce GTS 250 512MB 256-bit GDDR3

OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS 600W

ENERMAX Uber Chakra ECA5001B Black Aluminum / Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Now I was thinking about maybe going for the Intel Pentium E5200 Wolfdale and then using the saved money and upgrading to the HD 4870. I plan on overclocking this (duh
)

Looking at about $500-600 budget. This build is for my cousin, so I wanna try and keep the system some what upgradeable for the future, was gonna go with DDR3 but considering the performance/price ratio it just wasnt worth it. I think the most important spec would be 2x pci-e 2.0 slots.

Rate it, Review it, Edit it, Mix n Match it!

Thanks!

If I were you I would keep the e8400. It is almost guaranteed to hit 4.0ghz, and mine runs way higher. There is no point getting the gts250, it is just a rebranded 9800+ , just pick up one of those instead and use the savings to upgrade the mobo to a UD3P/UD3R (whichever you can afford). Otherwise, looking good.

The big side fan of that case has been reported to cause various clearance issues and more specifically with tower type CPU coolers. Consider a different case such as the coolermaster cm690 or antec 300/900.

Erm the GTS 250 is the 9800GTX+, the benchmarks show that, not the 9800+
Anyways, theres like 1 GTX+ thats a few dollars cheaper with a MIR.

Any other case recommendations? I sorta wanna get a case thats not @ every lan

Agree.

Also I'd get a Gigabyte or DFI P45 board instead but that is just my preference. They are sometimes more money but they add extra quality.

Are there new & better CPU coolers then the TRUE,Vendetta2, and Xigmatek HDT coolers?

Also, besides tools, are there any other minor things id need for overclocking to build this? Stuff like thermal glue.

You just named the 2 out of 3 coolers that are good. there is the Noctua NH-U12P 120mm SSO CPU Cooler as well

those are the top 3 coolers out there.

I see certain Antec and Coolmasters at like a bunch of LANs, I mean Ill choose one of those cases, but I sorta would like a different case thats good and is i guess kinda unique cuz im not gonna mod the case @ all since its just a build for my cousin. He prolly wont care much tho lol.

I would try to wait for a month, the 4890 comes out and then the 4870 prices will drop.

Otherwise
Mobo - change to gigabyte ud3p
cpu - tough choice, maybe downgrade to e5200
ram - keep
cpu cooler - ocz vendetta or xiggy 1283
case - antec 300($45 at micro center) or cm 590 or cm 690
psu - change to a corsair 650tx
hdd - good
gpu - if you got spare room, upgrade to a 4870 512mb

Agree with this.

Looks good. GTX250/9800GTX+ is fine for your LCD. May change cooler to Xig S1283 for $27 and use that money toward a Gigabyte EP45-UD3R to max E8400. GTX250/9800GTX+ is 160w, 4850 is 105w and 4870 is 150w so that OCZ psu is fine.

can someone clear this up for me? If a mobo says it can use say 1333, does that mean it can use 800 or 1066 ram?
Yes, but I would recommend a mobo that supports 1600mhz DDR3.
Thank you! I was never sure about this.
get two 4830's and xfire them. It will be sweet

Yes. The UD3R will love the 1066 memory. As others suggested, go for the Xiggy rifle cooler instead. This looks like a great budget build, should be solid assuming you get a good E8400

Try the CoolerMaster Sniper. Nasty case. I would have bought one instead of my HAF, but they weren't out yet.
