Rewire Audio ASUS M3A76-CM

Hello. I got my sig rigs motherboard Open Box. Overall, the motherboard it self is perfectly fine, overclockable or not. However, I'm planning on getting a headset soon for when I get L4D2. Problem with this is, I wired the front audio ports wrong, and I have no clue what the correct way is, as my motherboard didn't come with instructions. I didn't know this till a pair of headphones caught on fire at a friends house.

I'm wondering if anyone knows the correct way to wire the front audio ports for my sig rigs motherboard? I don't want to cook chicken over my future headset just cause I forget to unplug it.

You might've killed your onboard audio then. As far as hooking it up CORRECTLY...just look at your motherboard's website. There should be a downloadable user guide there.

My computers audio is fine, as my speakers, other then being old eMachine ones, work just fine. I tried looking up the manual on the site, but it was in chinese. How helpful!
If your motherboard is mounted in a regular case (one that you open up from the left side) then the audio/usb pins should be on the bottom. They are labeled. From the newegg picture of the motherboard, I can see "AAFP," "USB78," "USB910," and "USB1112."

The pins are arranged differently for "AAFP" and the USB ones. I'm thinking "AAFP" stands for something like "alternate audio front panel" but this is just a guess... I'm going to go look it up.

Just because your back port audio works, it doesn't mean the internal connection does.

EDIT: I searched for "AAFP" on google, and seems to be the front panel audio connection on ASUS motherboards.

Double check on that manual issue. I went to the ASUS page and searched for your motherboard and found the manual. I clicked on "downloads," selected "Windows 7" and an OS (although it shouldn't matter), and then clicked on "manual," which contains 9 of them. At the bottom is the English version. It's called, "M3A76-CM user's manual(English)," "3.12 (MBytes)," and has been updated on "2009/02/06."

EDIT2: Sorry for the constant editing/updating, I try to keep my post as current as my knowledge on the issue.

Odd, I couldn't find the English version. Oh well, looks to be fixable then.
Well, as it turns out, I had the plug in the right spot, but I had plugged something else in that I probably shouldn't have. Testing headphones right now, works well, my ears are not on fire. Haven't tested the mic yet, but I hope for the best. One less handicap of my computer.

Edit: Mic and headphones work fine. Tested both for a good while, neither grew any warmer then I would expect from use and sitting in my ears. This is good, seeing as I'm now confident I can plug stuff into any port on my computer and not fry something. Good job people! XD
