This rig is my grandfather's. I built it a few years ago and he mostly just browses the web and buys/sells on ebay.

Lately...he has been complaining of his rig running very slow and even freezing for short periods of time. When this happens, he is using firefox and has multiple tabs open and active. If I had to guess...probably 8-10 tabs.

Rig Specs:

1. Intel E8400 C0 @ Stock
2. BFG 680i SLI mobo
3. 4x1GB Corsair Dominators PC2-8500 @ stock(2xTWIN2X2048-8500C5D G)
4. EVGA GTS 250
5. Boot drive=WD1600YS, Storage=500GB 7200.12

I've increased the SPP/NB voltage to 1.4V so it could handle running 4 RAM modules.

Then, I ran 3 passes of Memtest v4.2 off of a USB flash drive. All three passes finished with no errors.

After that, I proceeded to run 8+ hours of Orthos Small FFTs with no errors.

I'm running out of ideas at this point...I updated drivers and firefox.

I'll post some pics of CPUZ tabs too.

I really hope someone might know what the problem is.

EDIT: I've also ran a full system scan with Avast and found nothing. I did the same with Malwarebyte's anti-malware with no infections.

I also ran a disk cleanup and defragged with Auslogics Disk Defrag.

That sounds like software, not hardware. Ccleaner is your friend. Also, it's about time for a fresh reinstall anyway. Backup and make new, see if the problem persists.

How much free space on the c drive?
How much free memory when the freeze happens?
What OS is it?
Is it only in firefox or other programs, i.e. IE or chrome?
Have you completely uninstalled firefox and reinstalled?
Does he have any firefox addons that could be hogging some resources?
How long has it been going on for? Has it got worse over time?
Are there a bazillion things in the systray?

1. 104GB out of 148GB free on C.
2. Will have to get back to you about that.
3. Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit.
4. Firefox is the only browser that is used and I haven't been told of any issues with other apps.
5. I will uninstall and reinstall firefox now.
6. No firefox addons, except that he runs the Ebay Countdown program through the firefox browser.
7. I'm not sure how long it has been going on for, but at least a couple months. If it does get worse over time, it isn't by much. Basically just does the same thing since it has started a couple months ago.
8. No, there are only the necessities. Like 5 items.
